Into the top 5. Wtf.

That was pretty much everything you expect from a Richmond race and then some. Everyone was just racing so damn hard out there, great to see.

My take on the Montoya/Newman deal. Neither has ever given an inch so it's hard to take sides and instead, it's easier to commend them for having that intensity. Can't deny that Newman has had it out for Montoya literally since day one though, as he fireballed him in his very first Cup race at Homestead in 2006. Be interesting to see where this leads.

Brennan Poole wins in his first ARCA start at Salem. Ty Dillon, Frank Kimmel, Bryan Silas, and Matt Merrell round out the top 5.

Eventful race, photos coming shortly. I think 13 of 29 starters running at the end today.

Ty Dillon (#41) and Brennan Poole (#55). Poole was making his ARCA Racing Series debut at Salem, and won after being a lap down at one point.


Frank Kimmel(#44) and Chris Buescher(#17) collide midway down the backstretch. I think someone turned Frank into Buescher.

Dakoda Armstrong(#22) and Sean Corr(#82) spin after contact heading into Turn 3.

Milka Duno ran into someone while the green was out(I didn't see what happened), and completed several more laps with the car in this condition. I'm surprised she wasn't black flagged sooner.

Max Gresham has front end damage after being involved in an incident with Ty Dillon and Matt Merrell.

Darrell Basham spins after contact with Maryeve Dufault.

Sean Corr has nowhere to go.


Tim George Jr. (#31) and Tom Hessert(#52) crash in Turn 3.

I enjoyed today, despite not being too optimistic this morning about the whole thing. Got to talk to Will Kimmel and Don Radebaugh, as usual. I didn't have a pit pass this time. Got autographs from most of the drivers, some didn't have postcards, others ran out. David Ragan was also on hand for autographs. I got some major help with my race results project, with the ARCA Truck Series PR guy and a friend of his supplying me with plenty of information from a magazine called "SuperCars Today", which ran from 1991 to 1996. These guys have been to a ton of races, so I got to hear a few amusing stories... like Shawna Robinson trying to hunt down Kirk Shelmerdine with a sledgehammer at Berlin after a race one night.

You were right there near all the action today, Jeff! I talked to Radebaugh for a few minutes during the autograph session, but didn't get a chance to see anyone else today.

Kimmel ventured into the stands after the race, and this shot just made me laugh for some reason.


Darrell Basham is awesome.

Sounded like a fun race, with torn-up cars galore. That's short-track racin' for you.

Nice work, Dan!. I can see myself standing in the infield at the end of your video. I got lucky today I guess, it seems half the time all the action is at the opposite end of the track from me.

I look a bit depressed there. Far from the case though!

It's not every day I get enough information for my ARCA results site to take care of practically four seasons. I also traded a couple ASA yearbooks for some ARCA yearbooks I didn't have.

All the stuff I got from Salem yesterday:

Postcards, t-shirt, a pack of cards from around the 2004 season, three ARCA yearbooks '95,'96,'97, 10 issues of SuperCar Today, an old magazine covering ARCA. I traded a couple programs to get the yearbooks, the pack of cards and the SuperCars Today magazines were given to me by the ARCA Truck Series PR guy and his friend.
