Why the fuck does everyone have such a problem with 500 mile races at Pocono?

I'm gonna be pissed when they eventually cut the distance or cut an entire race off the schedule because you assholes keep bitching about it.

two 500 mile races, 2 months apart :8:

And add in at least 1 rain delay...

great finish. I hate this new style of racing though so boring and shit. Feel really bad in a way for Dale Jr he definitely deserves a win hes been going great last few races so i hope his time comes soon, it was good Johnson thanked him for it because Jr basically won it for him.

I'm still not clear on this. What is it that makes the 2 car draft so prevalent with this rules package?

I understand the improved cooling systems, but why not 3 car drafts, or 4? Under the old rules package cars were stacked 15-deep nose to tail and cooling wasn't an issue.

The way the bumpers line up has made bumpdrafting easier, but that's been the case since the COT was introduced and we had 9 'pack race' plate races before this shit started.

Saw about 20 minutes of the race this morning and I'll say this:

This two-car draft shit fucking blows. I'd much rather watch a 500 miler at California than that garbage.

Even though they single-filed it the first third of the race, ARCA had the best racing of the weekend. Not liking the tango racing at all. NASCAR need to do whatever they have to do to get rid of it. Perhaps ban the pressurized cooling systems at the plate tracks so they can't stay glued longer than a straightaway, whatever. Just make it disappear.

Yeah, this. I actually like Pocono. It's different, and it's a driver's track.

The way the bumpers line up has made bumpdrafting easier, but that's been the case since the COT was introduced and we had 9 'pack race' plate races before this shit started.

Back in about 2009 at Talladega, people figured out that with the COT's matching bumpers, it's really easy to "shove" somebody the entire way around the track. Doing this creates much less aerodynamic drag than drafting a few feet or even inches apart (there's a great analysis of the physics behind this somewhere on the Internet, can't remember where). The problem is the back car gets almost no air into the radiator, so it starts to overheat quickly. Plus Daytona before the repave was too bumpy and slick for this to work since the front car would get really loose in the corners. Now the engineers have found ways to tweak the cooling system to keep the engine from blowing up, so instead of being able to shove someone in the draft for just 1 lap or so at a time, you can now do it for almost 20 laps!

Theoretically, a 3 car draft where all three cars are touching would be faster, but it's impossible for all three cars to keep in absolute contact for an entire lap. It's difficult enough for two drivers to do the same exact thing, much less add a third into the equation.

Same here, I love Pocono. There's no track like it and it's challenging. Who cares if there isn't non-stop excitement, it's Pocono.

Better two races at Pocono then any of those 1.5 cookie-cutter tracks.

Even tho Pocono races tend to suck, at least it's rather unique.

Personally, the races need to be further apart.

What an awesome weekends racing at Talladega. Love the new style plate racing. Finally got rid of the boring single file riding around. Less chance of a big wreck happening. Note the number of single car spins. Whats not to love?

Finish was just amazing!

Yep, that's the only problem. One should be moved to later in the season.

I like Pocono too, but 500 miles is too long. 400 seems perfect IMO.

i like 500 miles. it has an endurance factor to it, which of course has been ruined by cool air suits and the elimination of shifting at pocono. but still, a car and driver operating perfectly for 500 miles is impressive. i dont want that to go away.

Well, NASCAR has lost some of it's "endurance factor" on the driver's part over the years (or decades) due to improvements to the cars. 500 milers aren't that exiting these days with most races. That's one of the problems with having long races presently, unlike years ago where it was common for equipment to expire early in the race sometimes and drivers experiencing fatigue, which would add twists and unexpected turns. It was more challenging back in the day, so NASCAR has not much use having long races that would usually end up having a lack of action going on IMO.

Given the weather around there, I'm not sure how much further apart they could be. Pennsylvania in late August/early September can be really nice or really shitty, often both on the same day.

I always wondered why if 2 cars hooked up is fast why 3 or more wouldn't be even faster, guess that explains it.

Any more and I guess we're getting into human centipede territory though.... :p

I was just thinking, they should put the Lexan spoilers on the cars for superspeedways instead of some reflective shit.
