Am I the only one who isn't as compelled to watch Trucks or Nationwide anymore, even when Kyle Busch isn't there to take a steaming dump on the field?

Don't think I watched 5 minutes of last weekend's Iowa CWTS race.

Actually, other than plate races and road courses, I rarely watch the Nationwide races live. I usually DVR them so I can rip through them in 30 mins. As for the trucks, I never watch them. I find them incredibly boring and I can't fuckin stand Rick Allen!!

I can't remember the last time I watched a nationwide or truck race. I'll still look at highlights if there was a crash or something interesting. I remember the road course races used to be good for a while but even now they're just as bad as any other race on the schedule.

Nope, I think if this season told us anything, it's that Kyle and Brad aren't the problem. Even with Blaney and Hornish in #22 and #54 respectively, they still trash the rest of the field. I think Gibbs and Penske should have most of the fault here.

It's true. When the 54 was a KBM are it was basically just a top 10 car that scored 1 win.

I wonder how Talladega Nights would have turned out if it was made today...

If I had to take a stab at it, I'd throw in a running joke about the Brian France knockoff running NASCAR constantly changing the points structure every race, usually as a result of favors from sponsors/drivers/politicians/celebrities, with the stipulations getting more and more ridiculous throughout the season (Chase spots are determined by who gets the most flips at Talladega, most post-race altercations, amount of times they've banged Miss Sprint Cup during the year, how many Waffle House waffles they can eat in 10 minutes, how many times they can kick Kyle Busch in the balls within a 30 second time limit, etc.).

Eventually it gets so out of control, they don't even bother having an actual race at the end of the season, instead awarding the championship to the winner of an ECW-style hardcore deathmatch.

As far as Ricky Bobby goes, i dunno, I guess he's all game until his morality shines through in the end. He sacrifices an assured championship because it'll mean nothing to him if it's awarded through Hollywood gimmicks and underhanded tactics instead of pure racing and fair rules, retires from racing, and starts a new stock car series. Fans and drivers leave NASCAR for Bobby's series and NASCAR goes out of business. End.

It'd probably be about two rival advertising salesmen constantly frustrated that some poxy racing series keep interrupting the adverts they fought each other so hard to create.

Actually it would probably be the same movie as the original seeing how anyone with any sort of pull seems to be oblivious to the current state of the sport.

Fuck you NASCAR for creating this shitty Chase system where one race punishes you severely.

I hope Newman or Kenseth take the championship without one victory, just because FUCK YOU NASCAR

This, I don't quite understand. I'm actually a bit annoyed by this particular Chase format because of the opposite being possible (shitty Chase, yet you still get to move on because of a single win)...

Junior's Chase results so far;
11th
9th
17th
39th
20th
31st

No way in hell that's good enough in the closing stages of a full season, nevermind the 10-race Chase format. These results look even worse down the stretch than what Gordon had in '96 when he went from winning three races in a row late in the season to losing the title to Labonte.

Keselowski's Chase results so far are way better, and wouldn't be out of any other title hunt by any stretch of the imagination, but what if Dale Jr. *had* won Dega? Would he be more deserving? I kinda doubt it.

This particular Chase format leaves a sour taste in my mouth, but not for the reason you're saying. :(

I think the obvious problem is that you're both correct. Each individual race means way too much when trying to decide a champion. Prestige and history aside, each race should organically weigh the same. But we're a decade into that not being the case, and the new system is making it even worse by a huge margin.

It's pure imbalance in weighted races. Like I said, one race can kill you because you can't really make it up in two races (unless you win the next race or the one after that). 10, maybe, but definitely not two. And, like Andre said, winning one race means you're automatically in, no matter if you had a bad two-race stretch. It's just asinine that the Chase did actually increase the intensity level of the drivers, but at what cost?

I also find it funny that the two drivers who have yet to win a race this season, they're in the next round while Johnson and Junior, two guys who won races multiple times this season, are out.

Winning matters too much and not enough all at once. That Kenseth and Newman can still win the title just by being consistent - y'know, the old-fashioned way - is quite telling.

The only race it pays to win is Homestead. Top 5's and Top 10's the rest of the time will get the job done. Hell, a Top 5 at Homestead might be all you need. Like I said before, they actually made it EASIER to win the title without winning a race.
