Last year. Over 6 hours because of the whole pothole thing.

No, red flags don't count on race time.

Still, there's more shock value in Earnhardt losing a tire and Cope leading through 2 corners to win than a 20 year old who was consistently fast and racy all week. While there might have been a remote possibility of Bayne winning, there was virtually none of Cope doing it.

i hear ya. and only being 4 in 1990 i cannot remember if cope was actually ever mentioned as a contender that week. but bayne, even tho being fast all week....nobody gave him a chance ( f u roberts). somebody said gilly at kentucky earlier. same sorta thing. just out of nowhere being super fast and deserving it. i couldve won the 1990 daytona 500. maybe upset is the wrong word. but 'super impressive performance with nothing else to back it up' might be better.

I had to work today and I came home and watched the race on the DV-R. That was a pretty entertaining race outside of all of the cautions. That was really cool to see Trevor Bayne and the Wood Brothers win the Daytona 500. This win didn't fall into his lap. He definately had the car to win today and he did. He's never going to forget his 20th birthday, that's for sure. This was definately a life-changing win for Trevor Bayne.

Didn't get to see the race, but watched the end on youtube (cheers to Mattzel) big congrats to Trevor Bayne, he sounded almost scared that he'd won at the end!

Holy SHIT sums up everybody's reaction.

Incredible to see Bayne's win. I feel like shooting myself now just because I missed that.

The 2011 Daytona 500 winner.

He drove for Michael Waltrip's Nationwide team for most of last year before some sponsorship situation resulted in him getting released from Waltrip's team. Jack Roush then signed him to drive for him in the Nationwide Series for the rest of 2010 and 2011 in the #16 car.

What a lovely result. I was gutted when Smith was wrecked (how on earth did that car end up 7th??) but I was happy to see Bayne, Gilliland and Labonte fighting it out. The race was good at times. Too many accidents, but great racing towards the end.

Even though Bayne was at the front for the whole race, the only laps he lead were the last five.

It doesnt go anywhere on the motor. You restrict the size of the fuel injectors, you change the compression ratio as well.

I was thinking smaller throttle bodies, depending on what they're using to get air to the engine.

That was the first Daytona 500 that I'd ever attended but I know people have been talking about how many people are going to jump on the bandwagon for Trevor and I would assume it includes the almost entire backstretch where I had to sit because coming down the superstretch for the last time I don't think anybody was cheering for anyone BUT Bayne, but that was one of the coolest races and winners I've ever seen in person in my entire life!

I heard that they would use carburetors on the plate races, at least for next year.

Truck and Cup race where HOF worthy, the shootout, duels and Nationwide not that much. So don't know, still a satisfying end of the week.

Yeah, I was going to say to put Cup Race on HoF and the Rest on SoS, but the Trucks were HoF with all those crashes.

I half expected this forum to have exploded. Then again, I haven't read the last 50 pages.

Wonder how long it will be before Hendrick signs Bayne to something.

I'm gonna say no to the HoF of this thread. We slammed the racing pretty hard, and though we got three epic finishes out of three races, the racing itself was kinda lame.

But yeah, back to Bayne winning. It was just one of those karma deals, man. I had watched him all day - "there's Bayne again, pushin' Truex, pushin' Junior, pushin' Jeff, pushin' Ragan" and thought that he'd really made a name for himself already. Then, the one time you see him in front of a two-car tandem (I know I didn't see him doing anything other than push - did any of you??), he wins the damn thing.

Amazing upset. Great to see Bobby Labonte be right there at the finish, too.
