(also, i just thought of this, and sorry if it has been covered elsewhere, but i read that article about nascar removing the carbs by 2012 and going fuel injected.... but yknow, like, where does the restricter plate go on that motor??)

It doesnt go anywhere on the motor. You restrict the size of the fuel injectors, you change the compression ratio as well.

I heard that they would use carburetors on the plate races, at least for next year.

Fuel Injection engines still have air intakes.

The whole speedweeks has been awesome and HoF worthy. The only thing that sucked was Dale Jr getting the pole.

I don't think Roush would let him go because I think Roush can find a way to get him into a full-time cup ride in 2012. It could be in one of Roush's car or maybe a full-time ride in the #21. I think Bayne made himself very attractive to potential sponsors yesterday. It wouldn't surprise me if a company jumps at the opportunity to sponsor the #16 Nationwide Team soon because they would be sponsoring the most talked about driver in Nascar right now because of his win yesterday.

You never know. Hendrick took Jeff Gordon away from Bill Davis and Ford back in the early 90s. Gordon seemed to trust him enough to draft with him in the duels on Thursday.

However, Gordon had not won a cup race, let alone the Daytona 500. Bayne went from a Nationwide regular to NASCAR star in the blink of an eye. If Roush lost Trevor, he would be a fool

Same thing with Kahne. He was signed with Ford and, I think, Yates racing and Dodge/Evernham took him.

Dear David Ragan:
If Jack Roush invites you for a plane ride, JUST SAY NO.

Something interesting from another SBNation article, which I was wondering about:

Though Bayne didn't earn any points for Sunday's race because he "declared" to run for the championship in the Nationwide Series, NASCAR said he can still switch if he wants. But if he does, he still won't get points for his Daytona 500 win.

I was very amazed at the racing in the 500. From the stands, it looked pretty exciting. The last 10 laps were very insane, felt I was going to have a heart attack.

That's the catch - Going to a race in person is almost always exciting, and yet it takes a lot for TV to make a race look good.

Yeah, I'm going to watch the race coverage later. Interested on how the coverage was, heard it was pretty decent.

This may be OT, but for those interested. nascar.com store is running 20% off items at this time, combine it with http://www.pjtra.com/t/2-29947-30169-50662 for additional 16% off. Just click the link and this coupon will be already in there.

I normaly dont buy any merchandise, but I just HAD to have a piece form the old Daytona pavement. So I picked up this http://store.nascar.com/product/index.j ... d=10828022 They got pieces from all turns and smaller stuff too. http://store.nascar.com/family/index.js ... erchandise

$179.99 - AC = $124.95 shipped. I'm sooo excited, can't wait for it to get here!! :D

It has arrived!! It's pretty awesome to own a piece of old Daytona and it's packaged in a very nice way. The asphalt is much more coarse than I expected! This was totaly worth the money imo.

Can't say any of us expected him to win. Knew he would do great at Daytona on Sunday, but never a win.

I'm still not sure if I enjoy the two car racing, but I know I got quickly tired of the term "dancing partner" being used way too much during the nationwide race. As for the 500, my gauge of a NASCAR race these days is whether or not I can stay awake through the whole thing. After being out late Saturday, I didn't fall asleep at all Sunday morning or early afternoon during the race, so for me it was better than many recent races. Congrats to Trevor Bayne, because I didn't think a single car team, or one of the lesser teams, really had a chance when all the big teams had built in partners to draft with, but 3 of them ended up in the top 5.

The 'dancing partner' bit is on TV getting lazy.

I'm not sure anyone can believe it. It's literally the only thing I've heard discussed today.

BTW, this thread will not be HoFed. I'd like to see a 2/3rds or a 3/4ths majority for a thread to be HoFed. That has not happened, so it stays here.

Well, we won't have to worry about it until Dega comes around in April.

Over 30 million tune-in for Daytona 500: Yesterday's dramatic 2011 Daytona 500 crowned the event's youngest champion ever and delivered ratings and audience gains for FOX Sports. A total audience of just over 30 million Americans watched Sunday's race, according to fast national ratings issued today by Nielsen Media Research, making 2011 Daytona 500 the most-watched NASCAR race since 2008. The 30.1 million total viewers, a measure of the audience that saw at least a portion of the race, is +1% higher than last year's total audience of 29.8 million and +15% better than 2009's 26.2 million. Sunday's Daytona 500 Race, which featured a record-setting 74 lead changes and 16 caution flags, earned an 8.7/20 rating/share and averaged 15.6 million viewers, marking a +13% ratings gain over last year (7.7/16) and a +17% rise in average viewership, which represents the average audience across the entire race, over last year's (13.3 million).
Initial tune-in for yesterday's green flag was up +7% over last year's start (7.6/19 vs. 7.1/17) and ratings grew throughout. Race ratings peaked at 10.9/23 and 19.8 million viewers from 5:00-5:30 PM ET as the exciting green-white-checkered finish was in progress.
As 20-year-old Trevor Bayne celebrated his against-all-odds win, yesterday's ratings improved +46% year-over-year in the Men 18-34 demographic (3.8 vs. 2.6). Male teen viewing posted a 3.1 rating, nearly doubling last year's 1.6 and matching the best Daytona 500 rating in six years among Males 12-17. Other key demographics gains include Men 18-49, up +16% (6.4 vs. 5.5) and Men 25-54 up +14% (8.2 vs. 7.2).
Nine of the top 10 metered markets saw double-digit increases from last year including Chicago (+61%, 5.8 vs. 3.6), New York (+32%, 4.1 vs. 3.1), Los Angeles (+46%, 4.1 vs. 2.8), Philadelphia (+19%, 7.0 vs. 5.9), Dallas (+18%, 7.2 vs. 6.1), San Francisco (+21%, 4.7 vs. 3.9), and Boston (+20%, 4.8 vs. 4.0). Dayton was the country's No. 1 market for the Daytona 500 at a 20.4/33, up +61% (vs. 12.7), followed by NASCAR hotbed Greensboro, NC (20.1/35). Minneapolis also saw significant year-to-year gains posting a 10.2, up +50% vs. 6.8.(FoxSports)(2-21-2011)
