After an epic weekend at Texas which saw Rowdy giving the one-finger salute, two Jeffs in a backstretch brawl, and Jimmie getting one-upped by Denny in the points, the Sprint Cup tour heads out west to Phoenix for the second-to-last race in the Chase, along with the Nationwide and Trucks.

Sprint Cup: Kobalt Tools 500 (Sunday @ 3pm ET on ESPN)
Nationwide: WYPALL 200 (Saturday @ 4:30pm ET on ESPN2)
Trucks: Lucas Oil 150 (Friday @ 8pm ET on SPEED)

Looks like I'll get to go to the Sprint Cup race on Sunday.. it's through some Lowe's thingie, so if I get there early enough, I can see/meet(?) Jimmie Johnson!

It looks like it starts at 8am, like breakfast at the Lowe's hospitality area, but I'm about 2, 2 1/2 hours away from the track, so I don't think I want to leave at 6am.

And take Denny Hamlin out with him.

Btw, Michael Waltrip is running the K&N West race on Saturday night. He is starting 7th. Greg Pursley is on pole for that race..

You gotta remember that he's a racer at heart. He aint running that race because of the purse it has or cuz he is trying to get into cup. He is running it cuz I bet he still wants to race deep down.

Michael Waltrip is no longer competitive therefore he has to race against less skilled drivers to feel competitive.

Or maybe because its cheaper, and he likes Phoenix and the drivers really arent less skilled to be honest.

Bill McNally asked him to drive as a form of technical support, since BMR bought a bunch of cars from MWR for next year.

How about "For the love of the sport as it directly pertains to Michael Waltrip and/or MWR"?

Wait, Michael Waltrip was actually competitive on non-restrictor plate tracks?

Never understood the Michael Waltrip hate. He ran well at plenty of tracks, just never pulled a Cup win out anywhere except the plate tracks. More impressively IMO he started a team that wasn't worth shit and actually got it somewhat competitive in the space of 2 years. Plenty of guys have been around longer, done less but are still remembered fondly.
