There's a chance I might go to the ARCA race @ Springfield this weekend, just depends on if I get next Sunday off from work. I didn't put a request in to get it off,but I already got Saturday. Might get lucky.

Also planning on doing DuQuoin-Toledo-Salem next month on three consecutive weekends.

Bristol's been a sweaty nutsac of a race the past few years since they redid the banking on it. Hope it's better this year but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Suddenly modifieds everywhere, Versus has the race from Bowman-Gray on Wednesday night and Speed has the race from New Hampshire on Thursday.

Ya, I don't know why these kids get so worked up over Bristol these days. Bristol is living on name recognition these days - it surely can't be the racing.

Bristol, for all you children, used to be a narrow high banked short track where you couldn't get out of the way while being IN the way all day. Unless you were a top 5 car, you were constantly 'in the way' and getting bumped 'out of the way' in short order. If you got moved out of the way harshly enough and spun, you were now 'in the way' of cars bearing down on you at high speed.

In the early 90s when it was converted to a concrete racing surface, it only got worse. There was truly only one groove, it was just as narrow, and now it was even FASTER. These were Bristol's glory days from 1994-1999.

Then, they decided to ruin Bristol. First, they widened the straightaways by just a few feet... those few feet really took away the 'narrow' feel that the track used to have. Bumping and wrecks off the corner dropped noticeably, though they was still plenty of banging in the corners. Everything was still ok... a small concession to make.

Next, they repaved the entire track and instituted the progressive banking. Poor old Bristol was now brought into the mold of boring cookie cutter NASCAR tracks of the new millenium. To make 'racing better,' excitement and action were sacrificed.

Nowadays it's easy to get out of the way. The leaders will pass you high or low if they have to. No need to sweat it anymore. There's so much room coming off the corners now, it feels like you're driving Texas Motor Speedway. Green flag runs will easily surpass 150 laps these days. Green flag pit stops - once UNHEARD of at Bristol - are now relatively common.

They took a challenging, frustrating track to drive and turned it into a relative cakewalk. RIP, old Bristol :(

Well put. Definitely the biggest track fuck-up of all time.

I loved Bristol until they added the progressive banking.

Well, I don't have tickets to the doubleheader tomorrow night, I do have tickets for Friday night, and not for Saturday as of yet. Looks like most of my race watching will be in front of the TV this weekend. :(

We all do up until that point.

Might have something to do with the car as well.

Awesome! But with Dave's luck he'll probably get wrecked and be forced to park again :(

I think old Bristol with the new cars would be a total war of epic proportions. Think about it. People would be beating the shit outta eachother and that car would just keep on going. I think its basically all track and nothing to do with the car.

If the attendance suffers any worse, think they might actually tear it up and bring it back to how it was?

The availability of tickets for the night race tells you all you need to know about how they fucked up Bristol.

From a 10 year waiting list to walk up to the ticket booth day of the race... Good job SMI.

I NEVER missed the Bristol night race from 1993-2007. I made sure I didn't have plans at all that saturday night. Since the first progressive banking race, I haven't watched since. Hell I like the day race there more now. This weekend, while the race is going on, I'll be in Torrington, CT watching a cover band instead. Thanks SMI, you fuck heads.
