Here this esspecially interesting for Germans forum attenders: Matthias Ekström will give his debut in Nascar in Sonoma next week!! I'm really looking forward to that, although I can't watch it live :-( here in Germany, but the summary on Servus will be very interesting!! Does anyone think he has a chance of finishing in top 15?

You might want to check out the Sears Point/Road America thread, or the Random NASCAR discussion. There's a lot of excitement about Ekstrom in both threads.

who?

No, he will not finish in the top 15. The NASCAR drivers and road course specialists have too much experience on him, talent aside.

Are you saying that Mattias Ekström don't have the talent to compete with the best? And you don't know who he is?

Wow.

Wow.

I'm very surprised, too, especially because he did a marvelous job at testing to weeks ago.

btw, Mattias Ekström is Swedish, not German, so it's more interesting for us Swedes. Germany has had drivers in NASCAR before.

I think a Top-15 or even Top-10 is easily on the cards for Mr. Ekstrom. But like has already been said, the road course talent already present in Cup + those guys' experience with the car itself will make anything higher than that a pretty tall order.

Yeah of course but he is in DTM, which is pretty much a German racing series;-)

To be fair, I do not know much about Matthias Ekström or his talent, but even the road racing specialists have a hard time competing against the NASCAR regulars, mostly because of the familiarity with the cars. This being said, anything can happen on the race track and once the race starts, he's got the same chances as anyone else who is out there, it all depends on what he does with the chances he is given. I wish him and all of the other competitors good luck this weekend!

I think Ekström has a real future in Nascar. He'll probably do a short oval test this year.

Could have been a top-10 if Brad Keselowski didn't punt him.

Ekström did a succesful test on a short track in Georgia, Gresham Motorsports Park. He will apperantly race at Richmond in september, something he doesn't ethier deny nor confirm.

Let's keep our fingers crossed...
