Dave Blaney's a nobody and Ryan got there like Brad K: on merit. He's a great little driver and shows potential. Chase got there from being in the right place at the right time: a flawed point system, a great last name, and an owner running sure shot over an entire series.

Don't forget about Darlington. Very few veteran drivers could have done what he did let alone a high school student.

Steve Byrnes has passed away.

Damnit. I knew things were bad but I was under the impression there was still hope.

His last tweet, a day ago, in response to a fan was "I went the distance."

Dammit that's sad (and hopeful, I suppose).

Ugh.. I had a bad feeling when they did the race sponsor in support of him.. but I was hoping he'd pull through.

I was hoping for the best, but knew there was a good chance we would lose Steve sometime soon. That doesn't make me feel any less sad right now though.

Gah, Steve was one of the good ones. He was great at what he did, he loved what he did, and you could tell. He fought like hell at the end, too.

As I was saying to Gael, as sad as it is to lose him, we at least had a helluva tribute to the guy before he passed.

Really bummed Steve was great. From his Sterling Marlin impersonations to loosing his cool anytime Jimmy Spemcer broke out the crying towel. I knew he was in bad shape, glad the NASCAR family gave him such a warm send off. Feel like they knew.
