What do they deserve though? They'll call this a success and further proof that they're on the right track with their rules package and points system. Would any of the top 4 been a more justifiable champion than Kyle? Harvick, Hamlin, Truex and Busch all had inconsistent seasons, but more importantly none of them have an interesting story to their year, or their career. If one of them did have a standout season, who gives a shit in a sport that is so loaded with gimmicks and manufactured moments that actual accomplishment is not really a definable thing anymore? Nothing that could have happened today would have made this season remotely meaningful.

Compare today's "story" to this and see how far we've come.

Same.

I barely even watched the restrictor plate races this year.

Tbf the restrictor plate package Is pretty good atm (until they needlessly screw with it again of course) and the road courses are fun, even that roval.

So nascar can put on 7 good races a year, that's enough to tune in for I guess

Agree. The rules package ofr Daytona and Talladega is the best since the roof wicker package in the early 2000s.

Eh... the road courses have really suffered lately in my opinion, aero push is actually a thing now on the road courses and stages have ruined strategy on them.

I also question whether the road courses have been good. There’s been some snoozers there too lately.

A very anti-climatic finale. All came down to the crew not making mistakes. Truex's crew put left side tyres on the right, while Hamlin's boys put enough tape on his grille to cover half of Texas. Kyle's crew simply didn't go out of their way to shoot themselves in the foot.

At this point there is simply no excuse for most of the "evolution" that's occurred this racing series over the last 15+ years. Yet they will undoubtedly double down on everything while claiming it's never been better.

They can't even use the TV ratings as justification since both Phoenix and Homestead saw significant drops. NBC finished "flat".

I bet they will try to sell the calendar shake-up as the most exciting thing EVAH!!! :slaphead:

2 to 3 full races on my part for any of the "national" series - ROVAL for the Busch race (free tickets and nothing better to do), Daytona Trucks (only because Zippy was running) & Eldora Trucks. Same number as last year for me as well - as I stopped watching regularly when they went to the competition caution crap for the whole season

rest of the time was only bits & pieces in passing or turning it on for 5 minutes etc. (usually when something was actually happening after hearing about it on the thread, discord or twitter, or to check the leaderboard) - super easy not to watch these days anyway, given the amount of live tweeting now

used to watch every single on-track session that I could (hell I would go down to Charlotte to watch open testing back when they would do such stuff a week or 2 before the May & October races), just hate what's happened to it

+1 on that - honestly the road courses have suffered since the first horsepower cut in 2015 on the Cup side IMO

There's better things to do now than watch 35 races that don't mean anything in terms of the championship. The only one that did was a snoozfest. There's no point in watching any of them now.

I'm tempted to do a season review, race by race. Of what I saw. A decent portion was like - didn't watch, don't remember, already knew the winner and that the race was shitty, didn't bother to watch. But there were some ups and downs that might be worth mentioned. And just for fun and to learn something. Or see how much have I forgotten already....

Also post the very detailed box-scores that I did for best part of the chase. The chase was rather fun for me until the end of Segment 1 at Texas. Then I knew who won before I could watch and that the race sucked. Still to see the end of the Texas races and the rest of the season. Will do the review once I do that.

I watched the plate races, mostly for the derpfest potential.... Talladega did not disappoint. Think I watched part of the Charlotte Roval race and I watched Homestead via Hotpass on NBCSN, Leigh Diffey and Dale Jarrett were much easier to listen to than the NBC gang shouting over each other.

now that the season is ending at Phoenix you can expect more Busch titles and the series hitting rock bottom

Phoenix used to be Harvick's best track? And he lobbied for a calendar change. It would be hilarious if Shrub suddenly became the man to beat there.
