Ah, but it's no longer a plate race with the spacer.

So, what can we expect with this new package at Dega? I thought I read somewehere that Keselowski is thinking it could be a return to the two car tandem days. I am probably in the minority, but I would be ok with that.

I am expecting an absolute borefest however.

Keselowski is wrong about like 97% of the things he says, so I expect zero chance we'll see any tandems.

9 goddamn inch spoiler. I am hoping we see some action kind of like the roof wicker package back in '01. I expect it to not be quite that good, but hopefully at least in that direction.

ah Dega in april, once the most anticipated race in the season, now a painful display on how Nascar specs failed

I'm sure NASCAR has done work to make sure the cars don't have enough cooling to tandem draft again. And while I'd rather not see them race that way, if the cars' aero package make that the fastest way to drive but there are other factors (cooling and/or NASCAR mandate) preventing them from racing that way, it's gonna suck real bad.

It's kinda what makes the truck races so bad at the plate tracks now: the fastest way to get around is to tandem, but it's not allowed. So they're puttering around in a draft, tapping each other and lifting like mad.

I used to get so excited for Talladega. Now it's just a big pile of "meh".

Yeah, that huge back wing, might return the tandem. Unfortunate, I really enjoyed the Gen6 pack racing, specially AFTER having to watch all the tandem drafting. Gen4 was better but this gen6 was great. Really loved last Daytona 500, at least the first 190 laps and the green-white-checkered.

I never got the hate for tandems, and everything they've done since to eliminate them has made the racing worse so let em tandem I say

More importantly it's the 10 year anniversary of the destruction of the front end of Newman's car so let's pay our respects

I liked watching the tandems, but I hated that a driver needed always needed a partner to be competitive

I used to like watching pack racing for stock cars when I was a kid, but I hate it now as nobody can make a move & everyone is bunched up with nowhere to go.

-

i'm just happy that Mods are racing this weekend, and that I can finally watch a race from Stafford live as it's being broadcast

-

also when dega & baku are on the same weekend :8: :8: :8: :8: - (although not as cool as dega thruxton)

It's dega-baku-donington-paris-hungary this weekend (probably in that order too)

Its probably the first #toomuchracing of the season tho

The package that we will see at Talladega this weekend has never been raced and only once been tried and that was the Monday after the Daytona 500 when 3 cars took to the track to try out the package for Talladega, during the test the speeds were fast and extremely to fast well over 200 mph and that's with just 3 cars. That's the reason we will see the 9-inch spoiler this weekend to keep speeds under 200 mph, NASCAR believes that the speeds will be ok but there are concerns speeds could reach over 200 mph with all the cars in the draft on Sunday. There is currently no backup plan in case speeds are too high during practice

I just hope we get through it without incident. I am actually worried about what might happen.

What do they mean there’s no backup plan...they just put a bigger restrictive plate on to slow the cars, they’ve done it before and they’ll do it again if they need to

you can't cancel a plate race, how ludicrous :8: :8:

seriously though, if that does happen, it'll be akin to that infamous 2001 CART race at Texas

also mentioned in the post by Glenn was that insurance won't cover injuries above 200mph

Getting indy 500 "everybody flyin'" vibes....

Let's also find streams for practice then since that's when the shit will probably hit the fan...

They don't do a lot of drafting practice these days. This is a major issue.
