Because they can't have - or deserve - nice things.

I'd say it's probably because NASCAR media outlets have spent the last 8-10 years catering almost solely to the fans who just began watching for the first time.

This is a nice article about the 2013 car, with some good insight from Ford Racing's aero guy about what went down at the secretive Homestead test. You wonder why none of the mainstream NASCAR sites can get this kind of info. They post nothing but the same generic fluff all the time.

I must say the new design is rather sharp

I'll be pissed if that Dodge does not see the track next year.

Maybe I read too much into that article, but does it leave open the possibility that manufacturers could bring different bodywork or configurations (noses, etc) for tracks like Daytona as long as they fit the template?

Wait are none of the series racing today?

I assumed there's be a Truck/Nationwide race somewhere on one of their rare non-Cup weekends... :?

You could watch the above race to fill the void, but why would you want to do that?

http://www.nascar.com/news/120409/head2head-night-races/index.html

After reading this why didn't either of them consider more Monday night races? Especially before football season starts. I thought it was actually awesome to work all day then come home to watch the Daytona 500 on a Monday.

Because it's logistically hell, and not good for people who work.

I also went to the equally boring Daytona 500 in 2000. The only highlight was Johnny Benson.

Ugh, spending lots of $$$ to go to one crappy race a year sucks, so I can't imagine going to two of them. :( My races at Pocono and Loudon were both shortened in 2002, so I had a similar feeling of dejection. But hey, at least they were eventful!

I can beat that. I went to Donington Park in 2005 for the opening round of the BTCC. Only 9 cars showed up, there were bugger all support races, and there was a blizzard (in April). We left a day early. We paid to watch 9 cars, one of which was a Lexus that was so untested that it broke on the formation lap and was 10 seconds a lap slower when it was working.

Shortened races suck, and I know that feeling all too well. I went to the V8 Supercars at Sandown in 2010 on both the Saturday and Sunday (race each day), and the races were cut short by 6 and 5 laps respectively. Oh well, at least it had a legit excuse to be shortened (both times it was due to HRT cars crashing at the fast esses) instead of being called early due to shitty TV constraints...
