More details on this

Quote:
UPDATE 2: A small jet carrying the owner of NASCAR's top team and his wife lost its brakes and crash landed at a Key West, Fla., airport Monday evening, and the couple suffered minor injuries, officials said. According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the pilot and co-pilot radioed that the plane had no brakes upon landing in Key West. Horton said the plane ran off the runway, and then 100 feet beyond a 600-foot safety area that was finished in May. "If we hadn't done that, it likely would have been a different story," Horton said of the safety area that is meant as a runway overrun space. The National Transportation and Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.(Associated Press/ESPN)(11-1-2011)
UPDATE 3: All four people on board - Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick, his wife, Linda Hendrick, and two Hendrick Motorsports pilots - were released from Lower Keys Medical Center early Tuesday morning. Rick Hendrick was diagnosed with a broken rib and a broken clavicle, and Linda Hendrick was treated for minor cuts and bruises. Both pilots were evaluated and released without injury. All four have safely returned to North Carolina. The aircraft, which is joint-owned by Hendrick Motorsports and Jimmie Johnson Racing, remains in Key West.(Hendrick Motorsports)(11-1-2011)

Sources: Martin to drive No. 00 for MWR in 2012

LAS VEGAS -- Mark Martin is expected to drive a part-time 2012 Sprint Cup schedule for Michael Waltrip Racing in the No. 00 Toyota currently driven by David Reutimann, multiple sources close to the situation confirmed Tuesday.

Sources said team owner Michael Waltrip, a two-time Daytona 500 winner, likely will drive all or a portion of the four restrictor-plate races at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.

MWR's lineup for 2012 will be Martin, Clint Bowyer, who was recently signed from Richard Childress Racing, and Martin Truex Jr.

Sources said an announcement could come Friday at Texas Motor Speedway, where MWR has a 10:30 a.m. local time news conference scheduled.

MWR officials declined to comment. Reutimann, attending the SEMA Auto Show for Toyota, would neither confirm nor deny the information.

"Talk to Michael," Reutimann told ESPN.com, referring to his owner.

Martin is in the last year of his contract driving the No. 5 at Hendrick Motorsports. He will be replaced there next year by Kasey Kahne, who will move from the No. 4 at Red Bull Racing.

The 52-year-old Martin repeatedly has said the past few months that he plans to drive a part-time schedule in 2012, saying recently the prospects for that were looking better.

He initially was considered the front-runner to share a Cup ride with Danica Patrick at Stewart-Haas Racing next year, but those plans had been contingent on having a sponsor.

The No. 00 at MWR has a primary sponsor for next year in Aarons.

Reutimann, a two-time winner on the Cup level, is 28th in points heading into Sunday's race at Texas. Although he did not want to discuss the situation, he acknowledged he has a contract with MWR for 2012.

That is shitty for Reutimann if he is out of a ride for next year.

It's not like the #56 or the #00 have set the world on fire this year. MWR still sucks. Clint is going to find out the hard way what it is like to drive shit cars.

Reutimann's the only one in that team who's gotten wins or even had a sniff of a win. If they are dropping him, I can't believe it would be because of performance. Pay maybe? That's why Bowyer left RCR.

Could Hendrick field a 5th car on a part time basis for Mark? Or is that only for rookies?

The 5th car is only for rookies.

Dumb rule imo. If you have the sponsorship to field 10 race teams, you should be able to.

I liked it when they introduced rules to limit number of cars under one team, it stopped teams like Rousch hoarding half the sponsors in NASCAR. Course that was back when owning a NASCAR team was a somewhat financially appealing proposition. And they just get around it by putting teams in someone else's name and having a "technical alliance".

So instead, they squeeze a dozen main sponsors among each car for only 3-4 races out of the entire year.

Hell, Ricky Stenhouse and Trevor Bayne run more than half the season without a sponsor in the Nationwide Series, even after Trevor won the fucking Daytona 500. You'd think Roush would throw them a bone once in a while.
