They would still race at IRP though. It would just be earlier or later in the year. I remember reading that some 7-9 months ago....
But, who cares, Nationwide series sucks

Didn't the Lucas Oil company buy IRP for the purpose of keeping it on the schedule?

It should be the other way around. Cup to the IRP and keep the stock cars off the Brickyard.

No more NASCAR at IMS would be fine with me, same goes for GrandAm.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Once, only used for four short weeks a year for one of the most prestigeous races in the world.

Now, just another race track.

The highest non-winner in points (not already in the top 10) would get the 12th spot, I think.

Yea, I was kinda hoping the 11th and 12th berths would be for winners only but it's unlikely that Jeff will stay the only top-20 driver with a win by Richmond. Brad will probably get up there if Penske can keep his monkeys from getting to the football.

On the Indianapolis deal, it was mentioned on Race Hub that IMS ticket sales are down 40% for Brickyard 400, which was why IMS management prompted to seek a Grand Am or Nationwide event the same weekend to make up for the poor ticket sales.

Also on Race Hub just now was an AWESOME Lake Speed interview. Just terrific stuff! If anyone can cap it, and upload it on the replay, it would be wonderful. :-)

Quit whining about the Indy history stuff. It's a race track, lets use it. It doesn't diminish the history that has already happened or could happen. Can't really think of any other tracks in the world (Monaco aside for obvious reasons) that don't see a ton of different classes racing on them throughout the year, why should Indy be any different? If you think stock cars don't belong there for a racing quality/competition reason, that's an entirely different argument, but placing it off limits for 48 weeks a year and then only opening it up for one series is just nonsense.

Ford working on 2013 Mustang: The redesigned NASCAR Cup chassis is still 18 months away from making its on-track debut, but team owner Jack Roush said fans may soon get a sneak peek at the 2013 Ford Mustang. Speaking Wednesday during a manufacturer teleconference, Roush said NASCAR has required each of the four manufacturers to meet a series of "hard points," places where the sanctioning body wants the chassis to be similar across each make, without significant aerodynamic advantages. The key, according to Roush, is to add manufacturer-specific styling touches without affecting the competitive balance currently seen in the sport. That worked well with the new Nationwide Series car that was unveiled last season and NASCAR fully expects the 2013 rollout to go as smoothly. "I don't think it is a big challenge and it should be easily accomplished. The roof is defined. The deck lid is defined. The front fascia profile and silhouette is basically defined." That process has been under way for some time, Roush said, and the first prototypes of Ford's 2013 entry should be rolling out of the body shop soon.(NASCAR.com)(6-17-2011)

Well, say goodbye to any good racing at MIS for a couple years...
Quote:
Michigan to be repaved for 2012: Michigan International Speedway will be repaved for the fourth time in its history, track officials announced. Work to resurface the 43-year-old racetrack will begin immediately following this weekend's Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 with the repave of pit road. Repaving the rest of the track's two-mile oval racing surface will begin immediately following the August 19 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The track was built in 1968. The track was repaved in 1977, 1986 and 1995.The oval track repaving project consists of removing the top two inches of the existing asphalt pavement, and placing two lifts of asphalt - each 1 ½ inches thick - as a leveling course and a final wearing course. About 646,000-square-feet of asphalt will be removed. And another 22,000 tons of new asphalt will go in its place.(MIS)(6-17-2011)

What is with this sudden repaving craze? It's like everyone is overreacting just because of what happened at Daytona last year and tearing up perfectly good tracks with a lot of character. As good as repaving technologies have gotten now, it'll be decades before any bumps return. Just look at Talladega, it's still smoother than a pool table after 5 years since the repaving.

Might as well repave every damn track on the schedule all at once and never bother repaving them in the next 50 or so years. :p

Michigan has always sucked. It's too wide, if anything they should narrow the racing surface and add progressive banking. But then again I'm going off TV coverage.

Just read that the paving would cost 7 million, while for Daytona they got 20 million. I believe big chunks of that went another way.

Gibbs courting Edwards? am hearing that Carl Edwards, currently the driver of the #99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford, is being courted by Joe Gibbs Racing to take over the #20 Home Depot Toyota ride. Where would that leave current #20 driver, Joey Logano, to the long rumored 4th Joe Gibbs car, no word on who would be the sponsor, if it happens.(6-17-2011)
