Only thing that would make it worse is if they reminded us where the start/finish line was every lap.

Yeah, I was somewhat suprised by that. Still, I wouldn't necessarily blame the commentators themselves, since the directors are probably yelling in their earpieces, telling them to hype a story that may or may not develop.

Yep, it's a real shame that they were dangling that carrot so much instead of talking more about the great racing that was put on for the majority of the race.

I honestly thought it was a good race. Lots of side by side racing, even at points where it would have been more sensible to sit in line.

Jr clearly backed off a little bit in turns 1 and 2 to try and get a run down the backstraight, and I'm 99% sure that he would have made a move and things would have started happening. The 2 Front Row guys were right in the mix, and would have likely had a go again. Sure, it was a massive anti-climax, but it could have easily been a great finish and no one would be complaining. Unless you like seeing stupidity like last year's finish. Hopefully they'll learn not to make a move too late next time.

Whatever happen to guys snaking their way back and forth down the backstretch trying to break the draft? It's almost as if these guys forgot how to do this.

Good super speedway race.

Agree the commentary was annoying, but that whole "dangling carrot" mentality is the main irritant for me for the entire season.
It's "chase", then "championship", then in the final race it's "daytona in february". We know the schedule, we're fans, we follow the sport.

Allen Bestwick was conflicted there at the end: he got his release but was not satisfied with no big one

It is a little ironic that the top guys in the standings came out of the so-called "wild-card" race without wrecking but still didn't get good finishes.

I was wondering this too. I guess if you're leading, you hold your ground. And if you're 2nd on back, you hope someone else will help you out.

I guess I'm the only person that prefers a good finish instead. For the past few years I've made it an effort to miss most of the superspeedway races and tune in with 50 to go. I'd rather have the pack racing and guys making insanely bold moves than single file. Hell I would rather have a tandem racing finish instead of blue balls. At least with tandem it could end up with some last lap passes. Instead I tried to watch this race in full (first time I've done that in a while). I ended up falling asleep for like 30 laps and was letdown with the finish. I could've been watching some good football instead :p

I think you lose more speed swerving than you gain by taking away the draft, because the 2nd place car is still getting pushed from behind.

I agree. I imagine in my head that if Jamie were to have swerved down low early to break Jr's draft, Jr would have just stayed where he was and gotten pushed by anyway. I could be wrong of course, but that's just what I imagine would happen.

I also felt like it wasn't the level playing field you usually get at restrictor plate races. You had some backmarker teams up in the lead pack at times, but their cars were visibly not strong enough to move to the very front. You usually see a few random names leading laps. This time it seemed like the same few strong cars were always leading.

That's the way it was 20 years ago too. To be fair, isn't that how it's always supposed to be? Everyone likes a random backmarker up front, but the best teams are at the front for a reason and if the good cars run up front all day then that's how it's supposd to be. The goal of the backmarkers should be to improve their stuff so they are legitimately at the front instead of lucking their way into it.

This time a fan didn't film his feet.

Yeah, because at that point the shot he should've got of all the smoke was much more important :p

LOL I know.

I saw that video over the weekend and all I could think of when I watched it was "damn autofocus".
