Earl was fastest in second practice, followed by Menard and with Braun in 4th. The Roush cars are just fast.

OK, if Paul Menard is .7 sec faster than everyone, even on a road course, something is wrong.

Menard did Trans-Am for a season or two too.

Paul Menard grew up just a couple hours away from Road America and (I'd assume) learned how to race there among the other short tracks around here. I for one am not too surprised about him leading the charts at basically his home track.

I've seen lots of news posts that says that this will be the first NASCAR race at Road America.

FFS

It is not.

The top series raced here in 1956, with Tim Flock winning.

good to see everyone blew their load with road course ringers. and people wonder why NASCAR drivers suck at road racing. it's because they never even get a chance to try it.

Even if they did, only having 1 or 2 races a year per series isn't enough for someone to get used to it. NASCAR Drivers aren't bad at road racing, just under experienced. They really need to take out some of the double dates and throw in 3 or 4 more road races. As long as they don't flood the calender, I'd love more road racing.

yeah that's what im saying, they don't have any experience. even 1 or 2 races per year could help give them a feel for how a road race plays out and how they need to drive.

I didn't even know that Menard was good on road courses. Best of luck to him. He has actually impressed me on occasion in cup this year.

Jan Magnussen on the entry list? Awesome.

I dunno about that..

And till one of these ringers actually win a (Cup) road race that they're always so hyped about, I wouldn't say NASCAR drivers suck at road racing either. Sure, some do but if they can do well on a variety of ovals, they have the skill to do well on road courses too, just not the upbringing. Kahne, Harvick, Stewart are good examples of someone breaking that mold. Try Dave's idea and you'll see many more guys make themselves learn road racing. Guys like Kenseth, Jr, Marlin, etc. pretty much said they never bothered trying to do well on the road courses as there were so few.

It looks like most, if not all of the ringers are driving for teams that already have a rotating lineup of drivers anyway. It's not like a couple years ago, when teams were deciding rookies like Reutimann or Stremme were incapable of driving on a road course.

Mattias Ekström is a Danish World Rally Championship driver. Xpert commentary from Jeff Hammond and Larry Mac.

It makes you wonder how they have a job if they give incorrect info to the commentary team.
