Looking at the radar, I doubt we are going back to green any time soon!

I guess they'll have to change the start time of this derpness or move into the championship round because every year the race is getting red flag

This won't restart for a while. You can hear the thunder on the stream.

Why do they start so late? I remember watching some 500's on eurosport and abmoteurs in the past (late nineties early 2000's) and those races started 18h or 19h cet. Now it was 21:10h. Wasted half a dry afternoon there in daytona

Pissing down proper now.

8pm restart if they even try today. Storms keep filling in behind.

Stupid. They want so badly for the race to be a day into night affair instead of just starting the damn thing at Noon.

night finish + noon for LA is TV's reasoning. today it wouldn't of matter if it was noon or 3 because it was raining at noon

also these storms look real bad north of the track, at least 1 tornado & several more pockets of rotation

I guess to make time for Muricans to go to church first and then have time to settle in, break out the beer and barbeque.

But yea, everyone's been saying it for years...when there's high threat of rain, start the damn race early.

TV wants them to start the race as late as they can because of west coast viewership. A 12pm start on the east coast means the race starts at 9am on the west coast. I totally understand why the TV execs therefore keep pushing them to start races around 3pm to help balance that out. I personally prefer earlier starts since it feels like the race doesn't take up my entire day since I live in the eastern time zone, but I understand why they don't want to do that. The problem is that those early start times NASCAR used to use were that way for a reason -- early afternoon thunderstorms are all too common, and early starts were good for avoiding those.

Oh yea, forgot about the west coast factor. I guess, it's a question of the TV execs having some provision for common sense. Have a flexible window for the most important race of the year. On a day when heavy rain is forecasted in the afternoon, what's better - Starting the race as early as possible and have the west coast late-risers miss the opening few laps or waste everyone's Sunday completely with a rained out race and have to air the race on Monday, when that precious ad revenue will be pretty much zero as everyone will be at work?

Looking at the radar it looks like there is a decent gap in the rain from 6pm-9:30pm

Did they ever show a photo of Newman's helmet after his accident?
