Kinda off topic, but the NFL signed a 10-year CBA last year. Does this mean they wouldn't be able to change the schedule until the next CBA, or does that not apply in this case?

If so, could NASCAR just push the 500 back a week by next season?

There is a Clause in the new CBA where they can vote on 18 game seasons starting in 2014 I believe.

Edit: 2013 actually.

I understand bitching about a rained-out race, but I have to point out the obvious - it was just as likely to rain 2 weeks ago and have perfect weather this weekend, so not much point bitching about the change in dates. If the monday after the traditional date was always a holiday and made a delay easier to watch, I guess you could be shitty about that. Doesn't make much difference to us Aussies anyway :)

Since I can not sleep I read some articles about the 500. They all pretty much say they are getting this race in tomorrow regardless if its during the day or in the middle of the night. I wonder if they will move the race to Speed or Fx if it screws up the prime time line up. Does FX have new programing on Monday nights?

So do I need to cancel my appointment or is the race going to be pushed back a couple of hours, any weather experts?

I'd reckon there will be a fair delay right from the start. Might not even get it underway till late afternoon. But i am no expert so what do i know. Well going to bed, albeit for 5 hours then up in front of the TV for what will be a loooooong haul

As per the contract the Daytona 500 must be shown flag to flag on the FOX network. So whenever they go it will be on FOX. NASCAR wants all of their biggest event on broadcast TV. Any other race can be shifted to cable except for this one.

If I'm not mistaken, commentator of latin-american Speed is the former peruvian driver Jorge Koechlin, he's got a weird voice indeed but I don't know what happened this day, looks like he's drunk or something, he's not in his normal state of mind...

Commentaries on brazilian Speed are much better with Sérgio Lago and Roberto Figueroa, they are constantly arguing during the races, it's very funny.

I'm down here about an hour and a half west of Daytona Beach in Florida. It's funny as apparently it hasn't rained here in months according to those I'm staying with. Now we have about 2 straight days of rain going here.

The radar for today looks as if it will rain until about 2 -3 pm. There is a bit of a break right now but then a big green blob is about to hit the speedway are soon and stay over top until mid afternoon. But this evening there is only about a 20 percent chance of rain. The only question is whether the FOX television network will want to stay with it all day. Though it looks like on Twitter the prevailing feeling is they will run it when they can regardless of what the TV Network wants.

I'm pretty sure they have to since the teams need to be in Phoenix by Friday and that's alot of traveling still to come. Tuesday would really be pushing it for them. I think a primetime Daytona 500 would be a ratings win. Sure the house and alcatraz watchers will be pissed but there's always next week. They keep billing this as the Super Bowl of auto racing.. well I can't remember the last time the Super Bowl was postponed because of rain or the tv network dictated when it was run.

The rain should stop at 3pm ET giving them until 5pm to dry the track, might get a start around 6pm.

I wish Japan would cover NASCAR races. That way we can get some real "KUUUUUUUURASHEEEEEEE!!!" commentary.

Get a Japanese driver or have someone sponsor Vocaloid and then we'll talk.

Matt Yocum just confirmed to me on Twitter that the FOX TV Network will be with it flag to flag all day regardless of when it is run.

Edit: NASCAR about to give an update.

Edit: FOX officials in Daytona tell those at the media center that "Dr House may have to take the week off"
