Not sure if legit or top-tier trolling... But this is apparently a NASCAR crossover EV stock car prototype.

Essentially confirmed by NASCAR as electric powered, and under consideration for an alternative series (not Cup)

According to MRN's Dave Moody, Ken Squier is in the final days of his life.

Very sad news indeed.

Ken Squier has indeed passed away at the age of 88. RIP.

Ken was my first introduction to NASCAR as I discovered the 1996 Daytona 500, and he really lent the sport an air of class that is hard to get without him. Seemed to always take the effort to know something about every driver, who their fans are, what they've been battling in the garage, and still have room to throw in a comparison to some random accident or driver from the 70s when the action called for it (or even when it didn't).

Ken's absence is even harder when I listen to someone like Rick Allen who's best attempt at this is "And there's Ty Gibbs... Uh, his dad died last year so he's got that going on."

Rick Allen’s worst trait is his long periods of just saying nothing, or screaming “massive hit” for a minor spin.

Looks like RFK is running a 3rd car at Daytona which will be #60. The official driver announcement will be tomorrow but speculation is that it's going to be David Ragan.

New TV deal:

- Fox carries the first 14 races + trucks
- Amazon Prime will carry the next 5 races after Fox + all practice and qualifying for the first half of the season
- TNT will carry the next 5 races after Amazon + all practice and qualifying for the second half of the season
- NBC covers the last 14 races.

So poor Americans have to have 3, maybe 4 subscriptions if they want to watch the entire series?

One subscription (Prime), plus cable. Fox, TNT and NBC are carried on most, if not all, basic cable packages. Or two subscriptions, Prime and pick your poison of YouTube TV, Hulu, etc, that offer live TV as those 3 stations are carried them.

It's going to be funny when cable winds up being cheaper than all this a-la-cart streaming. What once was a an option is quickly becoming a necessity as more and more prime content moves away from cable to streaming.

So, just for NASCAR... $120ish/month for cable plus, what, $12/month for Amazon... Plus $60ish/month for internet, for approx $200/month.

OR...

$60ish/month for internet, $12/month for Amazon and $80/month for Hulu+ (with Disney and ESPN) for approx $160/month.

For my parents, they won't be getting those 5 races on Amazon because they do not have the internet.

The new deal will sting if you don't have cable and just have the standard over-the-air broadcast TV... only 5 races on Fox and 4 on NBC. (FS1 and USA network will get the rest of the Fox/NBC races.)

That's less races on standard broadcast TV than Indycar, which runs far less races than NASCAR. (Though of course that might change next year, since streaming is the "in" thing... even though streaming's getting pretty expensive these days...)

Exactly the reason why I haven't "cut the cord" for the "big league" stuff. I'd be stuck with paying Spectrum regardless given it's the only high speed internet option where I'm at too.

still more NASCAR races on "free" broadcast TV as a whole compared to the current deals when factoring all 3 national tours (granted it being a "B-list over the air" in CW for Xfinity)

2024: 28 (Cup: 21. Xfinity: 6, Trucks: 1)
2025: 42 (Cup: 9, Xfinity: 33, Trucks: 0 as announced but it wouldn't be shocking if FOX put a race on network like the last couple years)

And the whole thing happened because his then-girlfriend was complaining that he's wearing a promise ring on the wrong finger...

...yeah, that's toxic relationship territory.

Any pics? I can't find any. That's going to have a fairly big (and shitty) effect on the chicane

They can always make tyre barriers like in the first version of Charlotte roval :D

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

perhaps they could fit some astroturf around the chicane when using the roval

Shane Van Gisbergen is going to run the full Xfinity Schedule with Kaulig Racing and will run 7 cup races.

https://www.jayski.com/2023/12/13/weathertech-to-sponsor-van-shane-van-gisbergen-in-a-majority-of-2024-races/

AJ Allmendinger and Shane Van Gisbergen running on road courses in equal equipment should be fun to watch.

Does the layout even need the chicane at this point? If I am remembering correctly the chicane seems to the area that causes the most accidents anyway.

With the amount of downforce modern prototypes generate even in their "low" downforce settings I doubt it would make that much difference to the speeds at the start/finish.
