Michigan has about 45,000 more seats now than in that picture. Same crowd.

Without the Chase, Jeff Gordon would have nearly a full race lead on Dale Jr. Amazing how it could have played out. Also don't forget, these points still matter in the Chase, because once the next round gets eliminated, they lose that point bonus and go back to the initial bracket. After the next elimination, it's possible for Biffle and company to be as high as 9th in points. And lastly as high as 5th. That's what you're shooting for once you get knocked out. So you can't really just stroke around in the back.

Black flag for Harry Gant, jumping the start imo.

^ If you call for a black flag on Gant then there's about 15 other guys in the back you'd have to throw the flag for. That's just a damned ole mess of a start.

Throw the green and let'em go. They'll have it sorted out by the time they get down the back straight.

I haven't looked at the points total cos I'm usually x'ing off the stream as they cross the line but I'm hoping it's still possible someone who hasn't won a race this season (Kenseth?) will win this thing, thus showing it up for the ridiculous sham it is.

Not to be THAT geek, but that's actually Phil Parsons. Gant can be seen further back on the outside. Multiple Skoal car days. Wasn't untill the 90's they started flagging guys for jumping the starts, before hand clusterfucks into one were a guarantee.

I was mostly just trolling a bit, hehe. But yeah, I don't remember too much about classic NASCAR races. :(

I think this system actually makes it easier to win the championship without winning a race.

Getting into the chase is another story, but after Richmond it doesn't mean much to win.

Here is North Wilkesboro as seen from a drone. It's pretty eerie.

Starting at the 0:55 mark, you can see the roof of the building in turn 4 is caved in. Also, watching that shows you that it's no where near a Cup level facility.

Wow, eerie video indeed. I just checked out that place on Google Street View, and I see there's someone living in a mini-home pretty much just outside the track. Wonder if that guy has a way in and takes that Crown Victoria out for a few laps......... probably not, but I know I would at least try if I lived there.

The very first shot is almost like the one they do on TV before a race starts and you start to think boy wouldn't it be nice if it were an actual race broadcast starting up at North Wilkesboro in the HD era.

If you mean the one behind turn 4, that's a Town Car. But same thought applies.

Hornish offically to the 9 car in 2015.

Quote:
Richard Petty Motorsports announced that three-time IndyCar Series Champion turned NASCAR winner, Sam Hornish, Jr. will join the storied organization to drive the #9 Ford in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series full-time in 2015. Hornish, Jr. joins RPM from Joe Gibbs Racing where he competed part-time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this season scoring one win and four Top-Five finishes in only eight starts. Hornish, Jr. has competed in three full seasons in the Sprint Cup Series as well as two full seasons in the Nationwide Series for Penske Racing where he finished second in points in 2013 by a mere three markers. In 2014, Hornish, Jr. has made the most of his time behind the wheel while driving a partial Nationwide Series schedule at Joe Gibbs Racing with two poles and a win. He is now ready to rejoin the Sprint Cup Series with RPM. "This is a great opportunity to join Richard Petty Motorsports and the No. 9 Ford team in the Sprint Cup Series," said Hornish, Jr. "Owners Richard Petty, Andrew Murstein and Doug Bergeron have built this organization into a championship-contending team with world-class sponsors and partners. Many people have noticed to the progress being made here and I'm ready to build off this momentum. My goal is to put the #9 team in victory lane in 2015 and be a competitor in 'The Chase'." The #9 team will continue to be led by Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer who has three Sprint Cup Series wins to his credit. Co-Owner Richard Petty is proud to welcome Hornish, Jr. to the team. "Sam is a really good fit for RPM and will be a great addition to the team," said Petty. "He's a family man who fits well with our core values and he will be a great ambassador for our partners. Sam's also proven that he can win races and compete for a championship. He came into the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with a steep learning curve from open wheel racing, but has shown in the Nationwide Series that he is a winner. We feel that he can get the #9 team to Victory Lane and compete in 'The Chase' for us."
