I agree that he's kind of a useless tool at this point, but that little 31-year-old anecdote is pretty irrelevant anyway.
So you didn't remember that, eh. 10-4 on you think history is irrelevant. It was a pivotal moment in the King's career and proved Pemberton was a shill early on. Some folks learn from history and mistakes - some don't.

My point was that if you're going to look into the past actions of NASCAR management who have a history as competitors, you're likely to find a ton of unsavory shit on every last one of them.

From this FB post, it sounds like driver eligibility rules have been tinkered with due to the Tony Stewart controversy:

Bad news.. NASCAR is tightening up its restrictions with all the media so hard up about the Tony Stewart deal and I will not be running Bristol due to no registered pavement races they informed me i need a ARCA race and then I should be approved to run the truck again.. Working on a few options and will try to keep you all updated... Taking the weekend off to regroup.

Remember that time Mark Martin pulled into the garage and out of the lead coming to the white flag at Bristol?

Hard to believe, but smart, honest, hard-working, and talented people do dumb shit too sometimes.

Look. It's a test. It's way easier to add bolt on parts or remove them than it is to rebuild the body. A easy way to test MAX anything...

I think it looks cool personally…

There is honestly 2 options, in my opinion... pack on a God forsaken amount of downforce, which will probably lead to IndyCar-esque speeds and pack racing on 1.5 mile tracks.

Or cut the downforce in half and let them drive the cars like it used to be.

If it's anything in between those two nothing is going to change.

They are going to test a low-downforce combo (with stickier tires) as the last test of the day, that's the one that I'm hopeful for.

If those get to the point where they are touching someone else's tire... something has already occurred.

So lets add front downforce to help the cars run closer together... even though running close together will keep the air off of the front of the trailing cars, rendering these new things mostly useless, except for the leader.

Wasn't this the big lesson from the original splitter? It becomes useless during close racing. Unless they think with these being further to the side the followers can peek out a little bit.

Next thing #NASCAR teams will test is a cockpit-adjustable track bar controller - electric motor for it seen here.
