I really enjoyed the ARCA race from 2011 when it got rained out on Friday. The morning atmosphere was pretty cool looking.

Not to mention it was a really good race. The morning atmosphere just made it that much more awesome.

Watching that race I agree it was great, but listening to Rick Allen call that finish makes me cringe to think he's going to be the lead NBC announcer. Will be watching on mute.

What? That was much better than anything Ned Allan Bestwick Flanders ever did.

^^^ Disagree 2435704368756%. Bestwick's the best announcer in NASCAR history, and if you disagree I WILL FIGHT YOU (and lose probably, but I will fight you). :)

Betwick's shrill, nasal annoying tones really make an exciting sport seem like a walk in the park with your dog....
He feels the need to fill EVERYSINGLESECONDWITHHISBLATHEREVENIFITSPLAINLYOBVIOUSWHATWEARESEEINGINFRONTOFUS

"Eliot Sadler over once and a half and on his roof, now the car is flipping all the way down to turn 3!"

Yes....what exactly are you adding there, Bestwick? Just go "woooaarghh" and shut up so we can all worry about the state of the driver, don't yammer on saying exactly the same things that our eyes can plainly see...grr

Give me Mike Joy's calling the wrong part of the big one any day.

I agree that Mike Joy is better than them both, but Rick Allen's gurgley tone change voice is just annoying as shit. Baaawwwwbbbyyyy GGGGGGGGgggggguuuuggggggearharttt... It's kinda like listening to Bobcat Goldthwait call a race. No thank you. (If you don't know who that is, listen to some of his stuff on youtube.)

Mike Joy has a declined a lot in recent years though. And he has dementia.
TNT would have the best commentator team if they replaced Adam Alexander with Ralph Sheheen.

Ralph was great.

I, for one, believe next year's NBC team of Allen, Burton and Letarte will be more on the bland side. Just my opinion.

I like Bestwick because it's genuine emotion. Sadler's crash in '03 for example was one of his better calls… The Nationwide finish at Daytona in 2012 was great.

An example of bad play by play would be Dr. Jerry's career in the booth… Whether there was emotion or not it didn't come through in his calls.

I know TV commentary can't be like radio broadcasts… But MRN's lineup is exactly what emotion I'm talking about.

Ralph Sheheen… Man, the guy always seems pumped about what's going on.

All in all, it really is personal preference I guess.

Bob, Benny and Ned were the best as far as TV, period.

The MRN calls are always better than the TV calls because they have to try to make it seem like the audience listening is right there with them trackside. That just won't come through on TV because you can see what's actually happening. A lot of times the radio call doesn't really sink up with whats happening on the track. It's hard to explain. Any one who has listened to the radio call while watching a race knows what I mean.

MRN are great and enthusiastic, just please keep them away from TUSC :p

There are two schools of commentary as I see it, those who revel in statistics, facts and information imparting.
Then there are those who rely on enthusiasm and excitement (but also have all the facts at hand when they've calmed down and the exciting incident is over)

Says a lot that the commentators I prefer (Murray, Ben Edwards, Hindy, etc ) are enthusiastic first, knowledge second, rather than people like David Addison and Bestwick, while still great commentators, would rather impart information during the crucial moments rather than get overwhelmed with excitement.

For all my slating of AB it's mainly just a personal preference thing.

Good gawd, yes. That was the worst commentary I've ever heard.

That's only because no one in the booth knows even a lick of sportscar racing. Maybe if they have a dedicated team of sportscar-orienated people...

Or use Radio Le Mans.

Random blurb: Apparently Ross Chastain, who lost his ride from the Keselowski truck, will run the #13 part-time for Thorsport.
Also, he will run ARCA full-time this year for the team. No announcement yet.

Latest since last month:

Ross Chastain was unable to put a program together with ThorSport Racing, but will race for Ricky Benton Racing in the 92 truck for first five races.

Announced today, Jeb Burton will instead takeover and race for ThorSport Racing at Daytona in Truck Series and ARCA race. The balance of Burton’s 2014 program will be determined, in part by gaining additional sponsorship. Here's the press release: http://conta.cc/1e7yFPI
