He could just as easily hurt himself falling down the stairs at home. Life is a huge ongoing risk, injuries happen.

Wife just brought up an excellent point... Kyle had foot(?) surgery in the off season, wonder if this had an impact on it? Just a thought.

This is a somber household as I'm a Kurt fan and shes a Kyle fan... Shitty 500 for us.

Sounds like they will be adding Safer Barriers around the entire track now

Quote:
"We should have had SAFER barrier there. We did not. We will fix that. Daytona International Speedway did not live up to our responsibilities today." - Joie Chitwood, DIS president.

Sounding like Matt Crafton.

Jenna Fryer just tweeted that they're flying Crafton back to the track to get a seat fitted.

Tire barriers are being installed the impact area as a temporary fix for tomorrow's race, per Chitwood.

Daytona is adding tire barriers to where Kyle Busch had his accident for tomorrow's race.

Don't get me wrong, Crafton is a great Truck driver, but that was their best option?

Robby Gordon seems like an awful choice. He's never even driven a Gen-6 in any capacity has he? Certainly not at a plate track.

That flat wall just before the road course turn 1 is also unprotected. They should put up temp barriers across that entire road course entry and exit area during oval track races.

You know, thinking about it, Daytona should have had that spot on the wall in mind. It's not like nobody's hit it before.

***WARNING, SPOILERED IS A FATAL ACCIDENT***
Spoiler:

Ricky Knotts hit around the exact same area 35 years ago and was killed.

It also goes to show you the improvements that have come in safety since then.

This video shows how far we've come, and how little we've progressed all at once.

EDIT:
Please not Matt Crafton...total waste.

He's also injured his left foot as well, so yeah, he's done for a while.

Its sad how they spent lots of money developing the SAFER walls and they don't put them around the entire track.

ESPN just confirmed it. What a bummer. His season is shot before it really even began.

Not a Kyle fan but this news is terrible. He will be out for a while. His chance for the championship is over before it began. These car owners need to realize that racing in the lower
series is risky. Hope his recovery is fast. I hope this shows that every wall needs to have a safer barrier

Kyle was headed for that wall one time before luckily missed it this time as this woulda been a Ricky Knotts kinda hit. That wall is as dangerous as anything in NASCAR.

As with Dale in 2001, this is going to change NASCAR for the better. Hopefully SAFER walls on every bit of exposed concrete.
