As an Earnhardt fan, I have been dreading the day that JJ gets his 7th and 8th titles. I'm sure he'll do it but at least now, people like me can scream ASTERISK!!!!! due to the stupid points system.

That's basically even more of a playoff system than the chase already is.

Win 1 race to get into the chase. Stay in the top three for 9 races and win 1 race to win the championship. That's fucking dumb.

Sounds like they're trying what the NHRA did back in 2007. Unfortunately the NHRA made the mistake of resetting the top 4 with 2 races to go and a lot of drivers had a shitty 2nd to last race and the titles were still locked up by the final event. NHRA used to determine a "champion" by whoever won the final race of the year. It's pretty much heading that way in NASCAR. Just run a season for nothing and let everyone who makes homestead have a title shot. Wanna see 80 cars show up for their one shot at qualifying and winning 6 million bucks? I don't know why they keep trying to morph themselves into a "this is it - do or die - one last chance" sport. We don't need a NCAA tournament, we don't need playoffs, we don't need eliminations... Hell why cut up the "Chase" that way? Make every race an elimination event. After halfway 21st down is out. With 11 to go everyone outside the top 10 is out. Then drop 1 per lap til you get to a winner on the last lap. Works pretty well in the video games! I wonder if people will keep track of "old school points" and "with a regular chase" points when this happens so we know how many different possible champions the season would have had if their preferred format was in place.

Here is what I feel is the root of NASCAR's problems. Brian France is an idiot and nobody (Mike Helton, etc.) has any guts to tell him that the ideas he has are bad ones. I don't think Mike Helton is anything more than Brian France's "yes man."

They're also going overboard in trying to appeal to the casual, johnny-come-lately fans instead of just sticking with the philosophy that built the majority of the proper fanbase.

They think the hardcore fans will stick with them through anything, they're after the money the casuals have. Instead, they'll drive off the diehards and the casuals will find something else that grabs their Shoert term interest.

Screw casual money, keep the real fans happy.

I know this would never happen but somebody on another forum mentioned the idea of all the big NASCAR teams getting fed up with NASCAR, and ditching them completely and all joining ARCA.

Only if they agree to run Gen-4 cars and not change the schedule.

Nascar's next proposal:

All 10 chase races to be held at either Daytona or Talladega.

LETS DO THIS

They may just form a union and stand up to NASCAR.

Who knows, third time's the charm? Brian France is more useless than Bill France Sr. and Jr.

Bruton Smith could always give it another shot at buying ARCA and luring the big boys in like he attempted to do in the late 90's.

Breakaway series: always result in making the sport stronger.

Honestly, i think stock car racing has a much better chance at pulling off successfully a second series than any other form of racing in America.

So, in this system, a driver could win the first 35 races, finish second at Homestead, and still lose the championship.

Think about that for a second.

You can be undefeated in the NFL and lose the Superbowl. That's what they're going for.

Yeah, Brian France's retarded dream of taking the NFL. The singular thought that has all but destroyed this sport.

Tony George is a known idiot. A breakaway series in AOWR in 1996 could have worked, provided if the schedule isn't all ovals and the full-time entry list isn't full of Americans.
