How can you not forget about the '84 Firecracker 400?

It's not often I'm okay with announcers dropping all sense of impartiality and actually doing something like that, but the moment was so huge, and Benny was just that awesome.

Such a turn-off the events, no wonder people think Nascar is fabricated, some histories are better than any movie.

New Hampshire would normally be on this weekend, so why not.

(also, speaking of Modified Races at New Hampshire. I need to find my VHS recording of the 1993 Shootout 40 lapper from there and get it captured)

Not to be a bummer on all the "classic" racing shown so far in this thread, but we did lose Kenny Irwin Jr. 15 years ago today. As sad as losing Adam Petty was, this one hurt just as bad.

Jeff Fuller's wicked shot into the inside wall in '06. (Replay at 5:13)

I honestly cannot fathom how Jeff Fuller lived through that crash. It just doesn't make any goddamn sense.

That was one of those crashes that watching it live, you didn't see the impact. But they cut to a fucking demolished car and you just wonder how it happened. IIRC he got away with a broken wrist.

Something I didn't know before now about that wreck (according to wikipedia), the roll cage had a fault which is why the whole car bent like a banana from that impact.

Post subject:  Re: The Classic NASCAR Thread

Yeah, that was an absolutely absurd wreck for someone to not be seriously injured.

That one stings just to watch it.

Post subject:  Re: The Classic NASCAR Thread

Thank God the drivers are on the left side of the car. But still seems amazing that anyone survived this, specially after those fatal crashes that didn't look like a hard impact with the wall. But I wonder how such an impact on the driver side would be like in a Gen6.

Post subject:  Re: The Classic NASCAR Thread

Oh man, I don't even want to think about if that was a drivers side impact.

In honor Davey Allison (who passed away 22 years ago today), here is his first Cup series win from 1987.
