Thanks, I never knew he had hit a stopped car first before the barrier.
The staggered free tyre barriers they used at US street courses after this era weren't so bad after all. You got a facefull of tyres, but it did slow down the car before the final concrete wall.

Williams' Keke Rosberg and Tyrrell's Michele Alboreto took part in winter testing for Goodyear at Daytona in late 1982, with NASCAR's Darrell Waltrip as special guest. Any chance of jumping to the F1 circuit for 'DW' were instantly thwarted by his tall frame.

We all have a soft spot for sexy F1 reject teams/cars, so here is Andrea Moda, a lesser known team from 1992:

There's a whole sordid story behind this absolute farce of an F1 team:

And if you can't have enough of that sexy black robe, here is Roberto Moreno running it at a soaked Spa. I will always unconditionally love watching anything from that blissful era where everything looked gorgeous to the eye.

The car was designed by Nick Wirth and the design basically was used for Simtek 2 years later.

The car itself was beautiful. Too bad that a crook ran the team.

What eventually became the Simtek S941 has an interesting history. The original tub was designed by Nick Wirth for BMW in 1990, the plan being a works entry for 1991. Instead BMW abandoned the plans and focused on DTM. BMW then sold the chassis and designs to Andrea Moda, which after updates because the S921. Andrea Moda originally started the 1992 season with the 1991 Coloni C4. Bravo GP then bought the designs and chassis, along with contracting Wirth and Simtek, to update the chassis for an entry in to the 1993 championship. That was abandoned after the project backer passed away. Nick Wirth then bought back the chassis and designs so he could enter it under Simtek for 1994 as the S941. The same tub was updated and used again in 1995 as the S951.

And from what I researched, pretty much every Simtek chassis is accounted for. 2 of the S951's were in use in BossGP a few years ago and there's a S941 hanging upside down at the Brooklands Museum.

Was that the long Charade circuit?

French GP before Paul Ricard featured stunning scenery and dangerous curves

Sure is :)

Charade is one victim of the Jackie Stewart safety crusade. Such shame because it was absolutely magnificent.

Contrast that magnificent setting in the canola fields of France to the container port at Valencia
