It appears that he hit a loose manhole cover. You would think they would make sure that wouldn't happen before sending cars out onto the track.

Not sure that's an easy fix

Apparently the frame of the drain cover pulled up. The cover itself was actually secure.

Ocon to a new chassis for same reason. Sainz probably will be going to the spare.

Helmut Marko said it wasn't a manhole cover, but rather a 10-15 kg piece of asphalt that simply broke off when the Ferrari drove over it.

The asphalt will be fixable, it's the manhole frame that will be tricky to deal with. My bet is they temporarily cover it over and asphalt over the top of it so there isn't any opening at all, and do a permanent fix after the event

Let's hope its only a small patch with problem. Otherwise it can be unpredictable. Specially on the middle of this backstretch. Fingers crossed.

Driver, may the odds be ever in your favor..... :D

We thought it was going to be farcical and yep, not disappointed. I would be mightily pissed if I was a spectator. ZERO support races, and then this. And oh hey teams you are going to do this all at 2-3am in the morning.

Edit
Just seen the photo on Sky Sports. Oh boy that has to be F1 done for the day. It is a big job indeed.

Ah, but there must be some nice parties, you don't go to Vegas for the racing. Well, you shouldn't.

At least got some nice pic from Motorsport.com
