I'm not so sure that the "can only change tyres if they move to the back" thing would work, because it would just set off a chain reaction of the car who is last getting a free tyre change with no consequence, so the car in front would have to change their tyres, so the car in front would have to change theirs

Then it'd be a race to get back to pit lane fast under the red to change the tyres first, and that's the last thing you want in such a condition

It's a legacy rule when Red Flags came out in the 70s or whatever and debris used to be everywhere and the consequences for a puncture much higher (and the sport would've been banned or sued to high heaven if they'd had a chance to give them all a fresh set of tyres, denied it for performance reasons and there were multiple crashes due to punctures with people getting hurt, so you can see why they err on the side of caution)

We get pissed off due to competittion reasons but when it comes to safety, there's no other real option other than the clerk of the course having the option to say "ok there's clearly no debris out there, no tyre changes allowed", but do we want that kinda power in the hands of people that screw everything else up??

The only real option is to stop red flagging for every goddamn little thing. if they didn't red for gravel in the first place, Hulk's tyres wouldn't be going off as much, he doesn't run wide and cause a crash, and the rest is moot.

All this "late game moments" plus "races cannot end under SC now" B.S is what started the shitshow in the first place and if they didn't learn from debacles like abu dhabi or today, amongst others, then they never will.

Changed during red flag - restart at the back. Also, do one extra yellow flag lap where anyone who wants can stop if they want to, restarting in front of anyone who made any changes during the red but behind everyone who stayed on the track. Pretty simple.

Changing during red with no penalty is an abomination since 2011 Monaco GP and should be dumped before any other rule change ever since.

Guys, you're all making a huge mistake here

Your idea makes too much sense

(Unless it's declared wet, then they can change tyres)

time to wrap up some good stats about this shitstorm of a race

.1st time a race was red flagged three times (previous record hold by 1981 Belgian GP, 1987 Austrian GP, 1990 Belgian GP, 2014 Japanese GP, 2016 Brazilian GP, 2020 Tuscan GP and 2021 Saudi Arabian GP)

.80th Podium finish for Max Verstappen.
-equals Ayrton Senna (rank 7th overall)

.22nd pole position start for Max Verstappen
-equals Fernando Alonso (rank 13th overall)

.17th straight season with at least one podium for Lewis Hamilton (new record)

.350th start for Red Bull Racing (484 counting the legacy team starts from Stewart and Jaguar)

This one sounded insane to me, until I realised that they raced almost the same number of times. Max is currently in his 10th complete F1 season (166 starts overall), when Senna's career tragically ended at the start of his 11th season (161 starts overall). :o

even more if you consider Senna got 3 podium finishes in his 1st season (whilst seating out for one race) in a lower than average operation

today is way easier to gather numbers, it was quite weird when Alonso broke the all time point record, now Max is only 25,5 points away to equalizing him
