And because everyone played games on Friday to get better spot for the actual qualifying due to expected rain on Saturday at Silverstone. Which didn't come. The format was mostly good to watch, since you got to see everyone's best lap.

Hell, the whole genre of alpine skiing and even rallying is based on racing against the clock alone. The FIA is now trying to make qualifying a sprint race and it doesn't work. You hear teams complaining that conditions would change more in one car qualifying format, but no one bats an eye when there's grid penalties for blocking or number two driver is used for tow or doing gimmicks like fake start practices and fooling around with tire strategies.
