Ricciardo was never a good qualifier tbh. Vergne used to be faster than him over one lap basically every time. When you join a team outside of Top 3 though qualifying becomes more important and the gaps are suddenly getting smaller.
And yet he has 2 poles to wunderboy Max's 0 and has consistently outqualified Hulk, who has never been beaten in quali across a season by a teammate.

The usual expert career commentary here based entirely on the most recent session.

I'm sorry but I'm taking Mark Webber and Jarno Trulli over Ricciardo across one lap pace any day of the week :p

It's pretty desperate for Ricciardo fanboys to be taking Hulkenberg as the ultimate benchmark

Funny how dominance always creates hate  If Bottas had 88 poles and 5 WDC I guess he'd been the douchebag instead?

I think he's just happy for his first pole.

I think that isn't down to dominance. This is just a matter of taste.

I thought about Schumacher, for example, and I don't imagine calling him a douce.

Spoiler:
Except for the day he went dressed up as a cowboy, obviously.

I was gonna say it applies to everyone but Bottas in that pic.

No, Bottas wouldn't be a douchebag if he had that much success.

Lewis is just a douchebag regardless of his on track performance.

Anyway, I am actually looking forward to this race. Cautiously optimistic.

Great for Max, hopefully his form holds on for the rest of season so mercedes gets some company and it might end like 2007-
Imagine Max takes the title. The Netherlands would go crazy

This season could have been a classic if Red Bull was able to deliver a proper car to Verstappen earlier in the season. But kudos to Red Bull for what seems to be astonishing progress throughout the season.

Also kudos to Williams who is showing steady progress and seems to be on the verge of joining the middle pack.

And I am curious to see McLaren tomorrow. They seem to be establishing themselves as the fourth team without much competition around.

When can we finaly claim him back as a Belgian? He has a Belgian mother, was born and raised in Belgium, learned his skills on karting tracks in Belgium.

We deserve a part of his success!

Nelson Piquet Jr was born in Germany to a dutch mother, maybe he could pick also some supporters from Max

As far as I am concerned, the nationality we see is based on the passport the driver is under.

Albon grew in UK but his mother is Thai. Romain Grosjean spent a reasonable time in Switzerland (even took part of the Swiss A1 GP team), but his passport is French.

The nationality you see is in some cases not based on passport, but on racing license. Best example will be Betrand Gachot, who raced under Belgian, French, Luxemburg and even European license.

My boss is Belgian, has always raced with a Belgian license, but has now moved to Germany. He has his license renewed in Germany, and now has to put a little German flag on his car next to his name.

And Grosjean... has a Swiss passport. He is Swiss, but races under a French license.

Lmao. Max is allright, he’s just an arrogant Dutch prick who runs his mouth, like most Dutch people.
He clearly got none of that Belgian humility from his mom.
