Could be very hot on Friday and Saturday (36-38) with some thunderstorms late afternoon on Saturday. Sunday maybe rain or no rain, temps around 28.

Anyway, I won't watch as Mercedes can't lose this race.

I like the new Hockenheim. It is a track that can produce decent racing, even in DTM.

I don't remember this :?

It will rain on Sunday.

Vettel will be leading and will fuck up in the rain again.

Lewis will win again.

I'm going to Hockenheim just for Friday because I have to be somewhere else Saturday and Sunday so I just looked at the schedule, it's very disappointing. F4, Porsche and Clio. Don't wanna say anything but I think that's a pretty shitty support program.

Why would you want to sit in 38 degrees (more under the sun obviously)?

Can't remember any decent race here after they butchered the straights. This track went from my Top 5 right down to the bottom. I wouldn't mind if they got rid of it and fast. It's even worse than the Hungaroring for me

Even though the old layout wasn't all that good for racing you had the long blasts between the trees, then you had the cars slipping through the stadium section because they had such low downforce. It was a challenge, now it's pretty much like any other track.

2003, 2008 (SC mid race forcing a change in strategy and Lewis and a couple of others having to fight their way back to the front). 2012, 2014, 2018

Not bad really.

The main problem for the new layout for me is that it is just so generic. I've always been baffled at why they made turn 1 soooooo tight, and the run to turn two so short. If they opened up T1 and had a longer run to T2, they could have then had a bigger swithch back through the trees to the straight with a long fast sweeping curve. That would have been really interesting.

But I know that they went with what they did so that the spectators could see all the action. And in the process, sacrificed what could have been a really interesting track. But then again it is Tilke, I think he was more interested in making a huge grandstand.

But the old one was special. These days I'm even looking forward to Hungary because it's special. Especially shit, but it doesn't matter. Just different than the other tracks which by now are all same.

I feel like we've had this discussion before, but people seem to forget that pretty much all the Old Hockenheim races sucked (in F1 anyway). If it existed in the DRS era, it might be different, but it didn't.

And I get it. I was in Bathurst in '06 on the front straight. The more than 90-100 seconds you don't see a car for seems to take forever. You may as well be watching it on TV, because your neck is craned towards the big screen for 90% of the time.

Of the new era Tilke tracks, this is one of the best. Has some great medium speed corners, turn 1 is a great spectacle, and there always seems to be heaps of racing into the hairpin.

They didn't suck for me. From the races I watched live, Damon Hill lost his first win ever in 1993 with a burst tyre, Ukyo Katayama was briefly running 3rd in 1994 and then Berger had a shot at winning both races for Benetton in 1996 & 97. The 2000 race was the best of the season and in 2001 Montoya had it covered until the engine blew up.

I literally can't remember a damn thing from the butchered version other than Montoya winning in 2003 and the fluke safety car that got Piquet Jr his lone podium in 2008. No circuit had been more soulless in F1 than the new Hockenheim.

I'm having the same thoughts. Hungary was dead last for me for years but now I look forward to this sucker  The copy/paste Tilkedromes are driving me nuts, they have no soul at all and the best of them (Sepang) is gone from the calendar anyway. I don't even remember what the Korea & India tracks looked like and the Valencia SC was somehow the worst of them all, even worse than Imola with the chicanes.

I live in the desert where the lows are 28C right now, 38C is nothing and I personally consider 38C the perfect temperature. I've experienced up to 49C, lived through days of 47C and that said, I have never experienced too hot but I'm cold below 20C. I'll be fine ;)

The old Hockenheim was a joke track. Just a bunch of straights through a pine forest that claimed Jim Clark's life in 1968. It only got the race after the Nurburgring became unsuitable and there were no other tracks.

Name a good race in the 80's or 90's from there. I'm struggling to find anything.

The new one has many good races in its history but people seem to loathe it still. Its been almost 20 years now. Move on.
