Hamilton took fastest lap?

He did it in the last lap, on the very old hardest tyres. Still faster than Bottas on fresh soft tyres. That is impressive.

Indeed, not even sure what Mercedes were thinking trying to make him pit again. Risking 25 points and a potential pit issue for 1 for fastest lap, and then to make the point, Lewis gets fastest lap anyway?
Amazing.

Yeah it just goes to show how much reserve race pace Mercedes have in their pocket. But I'm sure Wolff/Hamilton will still proclaim to the world how it was the hardest race ever and how the tires/fuel/reliability were a challenge the entire race.

Makes you wonder if Todt or someone else has asked them to rein it in a little so that there's still the illusion of a race.

I wonder why they do that. Why not be more sincere and say "we are the best because we use our resources and work better than everyone" than that farce trying to gather empathy

It's obvious the engines are tuned waaaay down at this stage of the season. Three engines per 21 races is one of the chief things that need to go away but ofc it's cost-saving BS.

As for Vettel, he simply can't blow it even harder right now. Total headcase mode. At least Alonso was bitching at the team while Vettel simply implodes time & time again. His fanboys have gone awfully quiet lately

imagine if they could run 3 engines per race like 20 years ago. Power output would be absurd

The last really old school engine kaboom series I recall was Olivier Panis at Spa 2002. He blew up in practice, qualifying & the race as well

Vettel retirement announcement coming in 3...2...1...

He showed significant signs of breaking mentally last year (Hockenheim for one) but this year is on another level. :8:

Imagine if that race didn't have Mercedes in it, it'd have been one for the ages

I find whenever he complains about something on the radio he'll then immediately do the fastest lap of the race, it's almost like a mental game he's playing with everyone

that's why I believe radio should be banned for increased challenge and less blabbering

I can't believe the car #5 driver is a 4 times world champion. I'd rather think there is an imposter pretending to be Vettel. Even in the times he managed to get Button pisssed in 2010 he wasn't stacking so many dumb mistakes as he is since last year.

Meanwhile, loved this race. Besides the good battles, it was a great one aesthetically. Loved the camera angles, the speed sensation they provided to us and the sounds were cool too.

Max and Leclerc were epic. Leclerc gave a masterclass on defensive driving today that I thought to be impossible with the DRS.

just reminding that one he won because of Petrov and the other because of Grosjean (and sheer luck)

the other 2 were because of Newey and tire changes

So kinda like Lewis has done it then?

Lucky in 2008 (or Glock) and superior car since 2014.

Or Schumacher in Ferrari and Benetton.

But yeah, Vettel is the one champ that keeps crashing and spinning more than the others.
