when I saw Hamilton going slower with medium tires I thought it was the ongoing issues that Mercedes has with harder tires but that didn't seen to be a bigger issue later in the race

in races with mild track temperature this could mean a big walkover by Mercedes

Melbourne has always been a very well attended race, but yeah it is smart when it doesn't clash with the start of the AFL season. I have always thought it was dumb to have it on the same weekend as the start of the footy. Surprising though that one of the Webber races in the Red Bull wasn't the highest attended in that period.

Toto said he's sure they just took a wrong direction on the setup, which is a delicious bitchslap :D

Heehee

I've read elsewhere that Ferrari turned down it's power unit for Australia as it was concerned about reliability following the issues it had during testing in Barcelona.

I saw some onboard footage from Kimi in Q3. In the radio he claimed he "ran out of K". And the Ferrari sounded like is the engine dropped revs in the middle of the straight, sometimes.

I'm not a tech guy, but I'd think there may be a couple of reasons. Maybe they have the engine turned down because of some (fundamental?) issue, and they rely on the kinetic energy to make up the power loss, maybe emptying the batteries earlier than expected. Or maybe the MGUK is not being efficient in "harvesting" energy?

I have no idea tho

They way Croft pronounces Giovinazzi's name as "Jovinazzi" pisses me off way more than it should. Also, the "Lecler" pronunciation - It's Leclerc with a hard "c".

here they said "Giovanazzi" at least twice at every session. I was just thinking the next mistake is calling him Giovanardi

Still better than when they pronounced "Kiviat", which they've thankfully corrected.

How long it took James Allen to replace "Kubika" with the correct spelling of "Kubitza" though? Nothing drove me more insane than "Kubika" back in day...

I still say Kubika because I'm lazy to say it properly :p

You're lucky he's not called Grzegorz Brzeczyszczykiewicz or else you'd be in true deep shit! :p

I remember the good old times when Robert began in F1 and our commentator made a huge fuzz on the 'tz' sound of 'c' every race.

Anyway, they don't extend the sound of the 'i' and end up pronouncing 'kubtza' which is wrong too. :p

I guess such a name would be butchered in the same way Jyrki Järvilehto became JJ Lehto.

It is in Poland :p

Btw, there was a poll among the foreigners in Poland and the most difficult Polish word to pronounce only has 4 letters  All four are diactric letters though herein lies the trick

The second most difficult was "szczęście" (happiness) 8)

I see no problems with Jarvilehto tbh. I always wondered why he shortened it in first place other than to appease the English speakers?

It's Vettel to rhyme with Kettle not Vett-el to rhyme with Fetal

Some say David Coulthard still hasn't worked this out after 10 years of punditry.

Erm, I may be wrong but I thought fetal was pronounced ‘fee-tall’ rather than ‘fett-el’

I dunno, the dude didn't want to change his pronunciation even when Martin Brundle used to correct him on air about it, but it's hard to get someone else's wrong thing right on a visual medium when we're talking about speech :p

The Irony being he himself marched up to Murray Walker in his first season to get him to stop pronouncing his name as "Coul-tard"

Lol, I noticed the 'Le Éclair' too. I realise he's quite a dish but c'mon!

That Australian bloke's name should also be pronounced Rikardo, but if that is correct then why is it written Ricc i ardo?

I'm used to pronounce Brazilian world champion Nelson Pikett, when watching reviews of the 80's, it took me a long time to realise who this P. K. (Pee kay) guy was.

What are you on about guys?

He's pronouncing the names as close as possible to their native languages:

- Giovinazzi --> 'Jovinadzi' in Italian (like you'd pronounce "Giovanni", the "i" is barely heard)

- Leclerc --> last c isn't pronounced in French. He also calls him "Charle", not "Charles", as the s isn't pronounced in the French version of the name.

All sounds from all around the world cannot be made by an English-only speaker, but it's common courtesy to match as much as possible a person's native name with whatever tools you already have in your own language. It's weak to not do the effort when you can. Skipping letters that are written but not pronounced is like the easiest thing to do.
