The 2002 Hungarian GP would be right up your alley then

They have to get rid of the narrow field of view on the onboards. It's terrible, especially so in the Porsche Supercup.

There's only one thing that properly transcribes speed AND field of view, and that's the human eye live at the track. On TV cameras, you always have to sacrifice one for the other. Until maybe VR technology becomes good enough.

The shot from Patrese’s car at 14 seconds is the onboard which I’ve always thought gives the best sense of speed. Shame this was the only time (I remember) it being used

Well that's exactly the problem. That camera gives a good sense of speed because it is large field of view, but then you see less details of anything further than a car length from him. You'd barely be able to follow a pursuit/battle in that camera unless they're already sido-by-sido.
It also deforms corners making them look wider than reality, and flattens elevation changes. Narrower field of view corrects all of the above, but kills any sense of speed :(

just read they're also changing the checkered flag to checkered lights, to avoid famous people messing the whole thing and confused track marshalls ending the race 2 laps earlier

I think this was done the race after the incident with the CF at the wrong lap.... :?
IE previously, if you waved a chequered flag on any lap, that would be it, end of race.
Now it's only the chequered lights that end the race and they'll be programmed to go off only after the correct amount of laps are completed. (but obviously there'll still be an actual chequered flag waved for the show)

What do you mean again?

It never disappeared before. Even when BMW owned it, it was still officially called BMW Sauber.

Yes, this. And it’s likely that the constructor and / or chassis will still be referred to as a Sauber on the entry list.

Does FCA have to pay to FIA? Or if they had to, they probably did that long time ago but kept the news secret.

It is rumored that Alfa Romeo Racing's budget for this season is 250 M€, which is quite a leap from last year's 50 M€ that FCA put in Sauber.

I stand corrected on the BMW Sauber name. I thought it was dropped.

Apparently Racing Point was shopping around for names and one of the options was Lola but they got rejected and now will stick with Racing Point.

They should've given a proper chance to Karun Chandhok.

Racing Point sounds lame, though.
