I started it for no other reason than seeing what seems to be the first pic of a 2018 chassis in the works

I can see the future. Lots of players patching their F1 2018 games to have cars without halo

I'm quite interested to see how they'll deal with cockpit views, tbh - the eyes will focus past the halo in real life, but god only knows how this can be represented in-game.

I think it might be a seat fitting or systems check in the new car - the simulator always seems to be black when shown, and the area between the headrest and air intake is completely different; I think the chassis for the simulator is based on the MP4-28.

Lol at all the bitching "F1 died now that Halo is here".

Well, then it died on the start of the 70s, where the push for safety started. A lot said that F1 died back then..... So it wasn't alive for well over 45+ years to beguin with.

Declaring F1 dead is almost like a rite of passage for any F1 fan. I don't think you can consider yourself a true fan if you haven't complained endlessly about how a rules change absolutely destroys the version of F1 that you have personally decided is the correct one.

Perhaps we should start another thread and reminisce over all the things that have killed F1 over the years :D

Oh, to hell with that argument. Historical comparisons are not a valid argument. There's always a line that can be crossed. You can raise temperature by one degree every minute in a room, at some point it *will* become unbearable and you can declare the room impossible to live in anymore. It does not matter that someone complained a few minutes ago but still lived with it, there's a line and when crossed changed radically the situation.

Roll hoops, carbon fiber monocoques, raising cockpit sides, HANS, no matter what you say about those advancements (and I personally dislike some of those, I loved seeing exposed shoulders and exposed, unattached helmets tilting in corners), they never changed the formula radically. It was still OPEN COCKPIT racing. This new advancement definitively crosses the line between OPEN COCKPIT racing, and tin-tops/prototypes covered cockpits.

Formula one is an OPEN COCKPIT, OPEN WHEEL formula. If you do anything that messes with those two things significantly, like HALO does with the cockpit, you're effectively completely changing the formula, more so than any of the safety advancements we've had until then.

Some weeks ago brazilian site Grande Prêmio informed Williams had agreed terms with Kubica.

Now, with Sirotkin likely to be signed by Williams, it's being said by Grande Prêmio that Sirotkin sponsors came with a very attractive offer for Williams to cancel the contract with Kubica so that the Russian could have a seat.

Not sure whether this just a way the news site found to hide a blunder or if this is really what is going on. We may be hearing more of this story in the next weeks.

For the first time in my life I'm going into an F1 season with the thought of well, maybe I might watch it (I know I evidently will). And for a F1 tragic like me....that's just bloody sad.

I've found that I've actually been enjoying watching Moto Gp more than F1 in the last couple of years. As a bonus the TV direction even has a mid 90s feel about it with all the missed crashes!!

2009 for visuals and 2014 for sounds, painting, teams fighting for the race win........ Well, 2014-16 F1 was dead for me and I didn't know it until I saw the this year GP. Tasty, so much that I missed and forgot about it. Specially racing cars actually going fast. Can you believe it, F1 going fast? And overtaking being somewhat of a challenge for someone with more driving skills than a sunday morning grandmother going to the church.
