They just can't be bothered to announce it as it's no longer an entire event like it used to be.

As the article says, the idea looks good on paper. I'm quite surprised to see it flop in NASCAR. But there could be tons of reasons for it. Too expensive? Teams still had their own stalls? A cultural thing?

I'm not sure what's considered a flop but the souvenir thing at Homestead was stripped bare within an hour of the race ending last year.

BTW, I am not going to Germany anymore.

I may start twitching uncontrollably and maybe become physically violent every time some nice stranger greets me with "Hallo".
F1 will ruin everything I tell you, everything.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Formula 1 bosses are evaluating adding a scrolling digital ticker to the halo cockpit protection device for 2018.

Integrating the halo into the 2018 F1 chassis has proved challenging for teams but its addition will provide additional commercial opportunities.

we are always seeking new ways to help our commercial partners, and that of the teams and promoters get the best possible visibility at each race.

the least it could happen is drivers using a sponsor free helmet and those sponsors placing stickers on halo

Ferrari is already starting to set the price tag on that

So, already the Halo is becoming more about commercial opportunities and extra Downforce than safety

Well, consider me fucking SHOCKED :whistling:

Only if F1’s Facebook social patrollers get offended by his comments

Wouldnt that compromise the structure thus defeating the entire purpose of the device?

I don't think it would be too difficult to attach a display to the outside of it. They still seem to be taking it seriously for now; they have told the teams the inside cannot be painted due to the risk of distracting the driver, so at least they haven't completely sold out on it.

Is everything worth doing to potentially save one human life every 10 years?

One human life that's lost in front of the eyes of millions of viewers?

I guess so.

Viewers who knowingly turned on their TV to watch a motor race? Not a kid's show or a 7yo-rated animation movie.

I mean, in all documentaries and interviews people keep saying how awful it was that drivers literally died "in the living rooms of millions of people", but I mean, come on. Watching people racing machines at 370kph comes with a flip side of the coin, not accepting it is as delusional as watching a boxing match while hating the sight of bloody lips or dark eyes. Sure, most matches go just fine, but every once in a while you're bound to see bad shit.

You're just trolling at this point, but let's try being sound, logical and reasonable (I know, it's hard, but bear with me for a second):

Driving without without helmets (or without seatbelts), would result in certain fatality for any impact against the barriers at 50kph or above, of which there are dozens in a season, heck over a single race week-end at some point. That would be an unreasonable risk to take. You bang your head against the cockpit/steering wheel --> head trauma --> death or coma.

Driving without HALO, but with a helmet and in today's cockpits, exposes to potential fatality in one freak high-speed accident every 10 or so years (for a given open-cockpit series). That is a reasonable risk to take.
