How odd; must be a trick of the light.

The ridging seen from the overhead shot is probably just the other side of the wing being visible over the nose.

Strange seeing the Honda on a Torro Rosso. Seeing how they do with the Honda and how McLaren does with the Renault are my interests this season. :)

They're tv days right? It's probably camera rigging.

Someone took a pic of the McLaren, right when the wind was blowing away the covers. It is orange.

Well, the more I see the Halo the more I'm flabbergasted that an American based series, who had more deaths in the last 20 years and in a country that is sue-happy, is more rational when it comes to major injury and death and can come up with a much better solution.

The aeroscreen tested in Indy takes the air flux upwards. Once F1 cars have an air intake above drivers head, which Indy cars don't have, this becomes a problem, especially now when saving the equipment is a crucial part of F1.

Mercedes - hardly any bodywork from above!

Those sidepods and rear end (if you pretend all the winglets and stuff arent there) reminds me of a early 90's backmarker....

Yeah, these cars have such a weird juxtaposition of the aero regs allowing hugely wide bodywork but the engine regs resulting in nothing to actually necessitate wide bodywork.

What? Why? Where? How? Who? Post a link or a picture or a context.

a duct inside the halo? wouldn't that take the stiffness away from the device?

No, the HALO has a mandatory core material and thickness that all the teams have to abide by.

Around that however, they have freedom to add 20mm (I think) thickness in any shape they want (not structural - for aero purposes only).

This was done so that a team can mitigate the effect of the HALO on their aerodynamics, and avoid it being beneficial to one team against another that has a different air intake or cockpit/side pod geometry.

The small spoiler is probably the most we will see, but then again leave it up to F1 teams to find some way to make even 20mm of carbon fiber look even more HIDEOUS!!11!!! than it already does.

This is by far the biggest dissappointment seeing the new cars since 1986. I was dissappointed when narrow cars were introduced and grooved tyres. I was disappointed with the step nosed cars, with the penis nosed cars. A few times I was happy, seeing the slicks back, the wider cars and bigger tyres last year.

But this halo thing, sorry, but if this is the sollution they could think off, they better make it a completely closed series like Le Mans then. I would prefer that over this.

Or you decide that open wheelers are too dangerous because of the exposion of the head and close the cockpits, or you decide to leave it like it was. But something in between is just silly. We can still see stones kick in the helmet (smaller chance, true), but I really have a hard time believing a crash that almost beheaded Alonso a few years ago, will do enough. I thought someone told me here that is part of the structure so virtual not breakable, but what I see about the Sauber the whole thing seems to be bolted seperately onto the chassis.

oh well, my interest has been declining more and more last couple of years anyway, only watching a couple of races anymore.

I feel a bit underwhelmed by most of the cars tbh. No-one has done anything particularly exciting other than Williams putting some black where white used to be.

No pressure, McLaren...
