1979 French Grand Prix

It was my fathers Father's Beta recording, so while it wasnt on TV it was for sure the first F-1 race I ever watched

I watched a few F1 races in the mid-90s on ESPN with some interest, but not much - I recall Jean Alesi was running the #3, so I cheered for him, but I don't think he did much. The only one I really recall watching in full, actually, was the '96 Japanese GP, and recall Damon Hill just dominating. My interest fell out until 2000, when I decided to get back into F1.

As luck would have it, the first race I watched was the German GP. Rain, idiot runs on the track, Barrichello gets his first win, lots of action, I was hooked. Naive 11-year old me thought that this happened every race. No, but it was still fun to watch.

I imagine this sort of thing happens a fair bit with new NASCAR fans as well. They watch Speedweeks and it's very exciting, and then next week it's at Fontana...

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

that remember when I was watching my first CART race in 1997 at Homestead. Michael Andretti won in that black Havoline livery. I thought he was a sort of a real life Rowdy Burns, but then I saw that the real deal was Zanardi

can't remember properly my first race, first full race I watched was in 1996, but had previous experiences watching parts of races and getting bored. But since 1997 Australian Grand Prix I didn't missed any race, but it were so many that I don't remember what happened in more than half of those

I can also remember some start carnage....Must have been 1986 or 1987 but I can only vaguely recall it and in my memory it's much much worse than it probably was....

When I later played with lego's and made my own 30+ F1 cars I always revisited that startcrash at least once per "season". Ofcourse it took out pretty much the entire field because thats how I recalled it :D

I heard about Schumachers crash at Silverstone a few months back than this was the first race I watched. I was only 8 years old but I fell in love with F1 since then :)

Why was Melbourne 1998 a new era? (I'm not saying that it was not, I'm just interested).

Possibly?

I was exactly the same with my lego cars. Used to start running a race with them, but I think it always ended with a pile up and flying pieces. :p

Could be....like I said, I recall it as pretty much the entire field :P

Back in those days my dad smoked Camel's and my uncle smoked Marlboro's. I told them to save the empty packages so my McLaren's and Lotus' had appropriate sponsors

First real race was with only 2 weeks old in 1987. I have some memories of the following years, specially Senna's death at 1994. Then stopped to watch F1 because my family stopped. Just to return in 1996 at Melbourne with GREAT style. That starting crash got me hooked. Joining with FIndy with great broadcast at Brazil, with a lot of Brazillians there. I had a poster of the calendar and track layout of each series in my wall. Almost never missed a race after that until now.

the first race I can recall watching was Belgium 1995, and what a race that was.

My first memory of Formula 1 is from San Marino GP 1991 where JJ Lehto and Häkkinen both were at points. But that memory is probably from sport news(not sure if that GP even was live on TV in Finland).
My first whole GP was Brazil 1994 and after that I have seen almost all GPs.
