At some point, you want to think of what you love in a person. As fans we liked the driver, the talented man whose life was full of achievements. On top of that, we could assume that the family probably loved a caring father and dutiful husband. All odds considered, those guys are likely gone. Forever. A functioning body on 24/7 support isn't good news. The only purpose it serves is to be there as a useless reminder of his existence - an idol -, but who wants to see him in that state? I certainly don't. Better keep the memories of when he was still fully alive. So, yeah this is still bad news for me. The real good news are still to come, if they ever do. |

Ouch. Only just read Gary's blog post, but I'd take his considered opinion over a hundred journalists. I would love for him to be wrong, but I guess you don't make a career like his out of being wrong. |

Yes. People seem to forget we heard these same words about Schumi's conditions in April. Since then, there's been no words about progress whatsoever. If they said Schumi can talk or do puzzles or move about, then that would be a big deal. |

after my first enthusiasm, I don't know what to think about it. He is awake, but is there communication with him? Can he talk, can he understand things? Does he recognize his family? Why is it so hard for the family to give us that (brief) information? I find it amazing how they manage to get zero information to the press / public. |

Gary was the guy who, when the accident happened, remained optimistic and tried to see the positives - at stages when we thought Michael was surely gone. I'm sure his bleak view now is absolutely a realistic one, sadly. |

The way the manager is giving out information makes me think the real state is the opposite to "normal conscious state", I rather see it to be something between vegetative and minimal conscious state. They have not even confirmed if Michael is or is not breathing on his own. The way they've been avoiding bad news and been repeating the small positive news, I'm almost convinced that Michael's state is already determined to be permanent and the rehab is really a palliative care... |

A bit roughly stated, but I don't think de31168 is alone in those feelings. Based on what we (and Joe Saward) are all thinking is the likely outcome, what's worse, death and a proper funeral or a lifetime of being confined to a bed and fed through a tube? |

If he is still mentally and emotionally "there" but with some handicaps like not being able to move, walk or feed himself, I don't think that is bad at all, considering what he's been through. His family would at least still have him and hopefully be able to communicate. But if he is well and truly in a vegetative state then it's up to his wife to make a decision. |

Fuck reminds me of how slack and irresponsible I am in having not done one yet with having 2 little ones. Better change that especially seeing that I live in wife's home country, God forbid anything should happen the the both of us at the same time. Last thing I would want is my 2 Australian citizen kids to be bought up in rural China, where wife's parents are from. |
