I wouldn't mind seeing Perez and Button replaced by them two.

So McLaren has two talented young drivers but can't find a seat for either of them.

Well, they could always copy Red Bull...

They still have young drivers like Nyck de Vries (although he isn't that impressive so far) and some other young drivers behind those 2.

I meant having a 'B' team. After all, there's a vacant 12th slot.

that was McLaren initial plan in 2007. Prodrive goes with Hamilton and another driver, McLaren stayed with Alonso and de la Rosa, easy WDC and a whole different story, I guess. But they said no to David Richards

meh, you're all wrong. Apparently, during a party in Helsinki, a very drunk Kimi told someone he would be in red next year.

Yes, this was rumoured in mid-August, less than two weeks after Hungarian GP.

Ellis, I don't know what makes you think that this Räikkönen-Ferrari deal was rushed. What I've understood (from Pekka Franck's articles) is that Kimi said to Domenicali in Nürburgring that he's interested to make a comeback if the deal with Red Bull doesn't happen. After that, the deal (or a binder) was signed at the end of July. Money wasn't a problem for either part and Shell announced that they'll be willing to pay Kimi's salary. The negotiation had much more work with small details. Details such as:

- Announcement date is decided by Kimi.
- The announcement must say that the deal is two years and the option for third year should not be mentioned.
- The option for the third year is decided only by Kimi if he wants to use it or not.
- PR stuff was defined on very detailed level, less than before, though.
- Kimi is allowed to do rallying.
- Equality with the team mate.
- Personal apology from Montezemolo to Kimi before signing the final contract.

This was not by any chance a rushed deal, but a very good, time consuming negotiations between Ferrari and Steve Robertson, who during the process kept the focus on "continuing with Lotus" and denied all the talks with Ferrari every single time. Behind the closed doors things were different than what was told to the media.

I wan't to believe this so much but it is bullshit. There is no way in hell LDM goes for that. No. Way. In. Hell.

Yeah sorry I can barely believe any of that. Kimi calls the shots? Gets an apology? Nah. The idea of it being rushed fits exactly with what Massa said all week.

KR OK.

Add a lifetime supply of ice cream and Coke and I can believe it.

Going back to customer cars, if they did have to be introduced would it not be more likely CRT bikes in MotoGP where they're pretty much their own class, not expected to compete with works teams?

As for Raikkonen's contract requirements, I can't see rallying being allowed after Kubica or any personal apologies. Its not like Ferrari were desperate, they could have maintained the status quo with Massa or brought in Hulkenberg.

Isn't that a perfect example to NOT have customer cars? F1 isn't a 2 class series.

Yeah I'm not saying its a good thing but if grid numbers got so low I think that'd be the most likely solution. I'm sure MotoGP didn't want a second class but with the lack of entries the organisers didn't have a choice

And if it is then we already have the 'Caterham and Marussia (formerly including HRT)' class.

If that really happened, so Enzo twisted on his grave

and FISA once tried to apply a 2 class racing in F1 back in 1987. We had turbo competition on top and NA competition with the Jim Clark trophy. last title for Tyrrell also

I don't expect to see Kimi scoring many points for the Lotus for the rest of the year. They don't pay him, and he doesn't have to score for them. The only reason for him to do his best (apart from himself) is to show Ferrari that he's in business. But just for Lotus? No.
