I'd say no news is bad news at this stage.

My wife was asking about Michael this past weekend. It's been so long now.

No news is what we were promised, unfortunately. His media team really do want to keep schtum, and they have done a pretty good job so far :(

Honestly I'd rather not know anything until the situation is meaningful enough to be disclosed.

Hearing about baby steps of him learning back basic actions would be too painful...

I think I'd prefer to hear he's awake and adapting every once in a while than nothing, then six months down the line an announcement is made they switched off his machine a couple months back and a private burial was held last week, which is what I suspect will happen given the way they keep behaving towards his fans.

I want to hear nothing except official reports, sick of these mass media outlets trying to make something up.

Gary Hartstein: "We will never have any good news about Michael"

Just his opinion, but his opinion is one I value.

Is there supposed to be a page 2? It stops rather abruptly on this tablet at the part where I guess he says something similar to what I did above, but I don't seem to be able to find a page 2...

Does the final paragraph start "I'm quite afraid (and virtually certain)..."?

The takeaway line from the post is that he doesn't believe any news about Michael from now on will be of the good variety. Which is a damn shame.

Yeah I understood the line, it's what I've been thinking for a while too, there's always a point where 'no new is good news' turns into 'no news is bad news', even when the family are being so tight lipped over stuff.

I haven't been seaking out info on it for a long time but the brief stuff I have stumbled across seems to suggest the family are still in a state of denial which is a shame.

You're being extremely critical about his family in this thread Ian, and it seems ill-advised to me.

What do you suggest they shoud do? What would "acceptance" mean? Giving up and unplugging the man? When that becomes an option, the doctors will tell them anyway. And it may never be done. Not long ago we had a post about a Nascar driver that spent 10 years in coma after his accident before passing away. As for "behaviour towards fans", they owe us nothing. Give them a break.

Hartstein has touched on this in several of his posts. There is a unique situation here, in that Michael is literally a global household name with a legion of (mostly well-meaning) people interested in his condition. This effectively creates two people for his manager to deal with - Schumacher the megastar racing driver, and Michael the father and husband.

You are right, to an extent, to say they owe us nothing. In the context of their family's struggle right now, they certainly do not. However, they will surely be aware that interest in his condition is unlikely to die down, maybe not even for another year or two. Whilst it is right that the family be left in peace to deal with this, the sheer number of people with a proxied but genuine emotional investment in him (created by years of him being in the public eye) surely means that the odd public statement - even along the lines of 'nothing has changed since the last statement - could be put out more frequently without affecting his family.

well said!

It's 5 month's since it happened. I think we have come to the point that no news = bad news.

Couldn't have put it any better myself.

If you look back I'm pretty sure I also said I did not blame them for their reaction after those initial botched press conferences where the same stupid questions were being asked over and over by the gutter hacks, those hacks have long since gone and are not interested anymore, but the family seem to continue to see any inquiries to his condition as invading their privacy, no matter how respectfully they are made.

To suggest there isn't a public interest or public stake in this is pretty naive about human nature. You don't have to like it, but you can't avoid the fact a large amount of people will continue to talk and ask questions about Michael's condition regardless of his family's grief.

The family and management can choose what to do with that: they can manage it, or they can ignore it. Both are perfectly acceptable options, but the latter obviously won't stop the public discussion and questions.

The Sunday Diana is quoting a German magazine (Bunde) that Michael has been moved from the Intensive Care unit to the rehabilitation unit, but is still in a coma.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.
