Looks like FOM have put the more angled up camera they had last weekend on the nose of Verstappen's car today:

Very reminiscent of this angle from 1994:

Mercedes is ahead by more than 1 second in FP1. If the trends continues, I hope that the second chicane will take care of that on sunday.

Is that a press conference being set up to announce a Monza extension?

They should remove Variante della Roggio. Two chicanes within a few hundred meters would be silly.

If they will really cut first chicane, that first small right corner will be frightfully fast imo

True, but the run-off area will be much wider than today. And much much wider than, for example, in Blanchimont which has 320kph top speeds.

The concern I would have with the revisions is that right now the 1st sector is where most of the best bits of racing & overtaking is. For as crap a corner as the 1st chicane is we do see some good racing through it & the run through Curve Grande down to the 2nd chicane is also a place where we do see a lot of good racing as the cars tend to pickup a good slipstream which allows for overtaking into the 2nd chicane.

With the revisions I think were going to lose a lot of that as the new turn 1 should be easy flat & should make it easier for cars in-front to defend against a car behind into the chicane so I don't think we will see much happen into there. Additionally with a much shorter & slower run to the 2nd chicane I don't think we will see much happen there either, Especially if the new chicane spreads cars out as that kind of corner tends to.

I think on the whole I just don't see a need to make the changes as there's nothing really wrong with the layout as it is. If there going to do anything then maybe just make some adjustments to the 1st chicane to open it up a bit & make it a better corner but I just don't see the need to make the big changes that there planning to.

I'm convinced that a current F1 car could tear through them at top speed without having to go up the banking. It's just that in the current configuration, all alternative "what if" scenarios lead to at least one person dead.

Seriously though, I'd like to see a track or a section of a track where F1s could ride in packs and slipstream each other, a bit like the first straightaway at the old hockenheim, except wider and longer. Just as long as you let Verstappen sart from the pitlane.
