Verstappen's lap was simply awesome. But equally impressive was Piastri. First ever time seeing the track and puts it P2 after looking like he was about 4 tenths off Lando for the first day and bit. Seriously impressive stuff.

Mercedes must be asking why when they knew they went the wrong way with their design they stubbornly held on to it. McLaren knew it and took the early pain that is now paying off dividends for not just the finish of this year, but also next year. Mercedes haven't been able to unlock as much progress as McLaren has. Yes McLaren had a much lower base to start from, but they have unlocked some serious development while Mercedes has been stagnant.
