Lewis saluting the mechanics to not tell the engineers to go fuck themselves was pure gold

Mercedes could get comfortable when they have the upper hand, but once they lost it they have a potential to be the silver Ferrari

Man, what I would give to be a fly on the wall in their debrief. That was a total "Oh my God...I can't believe you guys keep fucking up like this!" rather than an Oh my God of disappointment
But I'm sure Binotto will turn up in the post race and defend their operational fuck ups and deflect the blame elsewhere. Classic Italian managerial style on display.

Sainz also might get some good penalty points after his antics

Yuki is going to get a 10-place drop in Monza. 5th reprimand because of the loose seatbelts.

109 points ahead, 182 to be earned if you win them all with fastest lap. Verstappen can be champion in Japan.

8th according to the standings shown?

Surely passing under yellows warrants a 10 sec penalty or more?

Was it even investigated? Was surprised to see it wasn't even noted on-screen.

Wait, did Sainz not get penalized for that? That was as blatant and clear cut as it gets. What on Earth is going on with the race directors?

From what I understood, the yellow came out just as he moved ahead of Ocon so he got away with it

I wasn't this heart-broken since the "guys...." from Bottas at Monaco when the wheel nut seized.

That should be a 10s stop & go, and I'd go further: you don't even get to cancel it by giving the position back as if you just missed a chicane (just like you don't get released from jail if you give back what you robbed). It encourages people to drive like retards and see if it sticks.

This is the most dangerous crap you can do on a race track. It seemed controlled but you're one misunderstanding away from disaster and hurting other people. You're supposed to slow down and get back behind the driver you're passing, doesn't matter if your nosecone was one centimeter ahead when yellow hit, you're initiating a pass and haven't completed it yet. He even had a moment of hesitation bu went on and asked on the radio. This is the sort of trend that will get innocent people killed in the future, I guarantee it. Even if it was a honest bad timing, then tough luck, same as for the unsafe release, it shouldn't change the penalty.

@3:57 This MASSIVELY disagrees with that statement. From this camera angle the yellow flag was being waved for 7 seconds before Sainz reached the spot. It doesn't get any clearer than this. The yellow flag comes on the TV graphic just as he enters but the flag was waving long before that.

You could see him hesitate then just go for it. He didn't complete the pass before he entered the yellow zone. He completed it whilst in it.

These race directors are taking the piss aren't they? It has to be a stitch up by the FIA doesn't it? They naturally can't be that incompetent can they? Are they going to say they didn't have all the camera angles?

I hope this happens. The WDC being decided in Japan just feels right

I was wrong though.
If Verstappen wins + FL and Leclerc and Perez fail to score in Monza, he has a 135 points lead. And in that case, he can even lose up to 5 points to Leclerc and Perez and still be champion in Singapore. He would then have a 130 points advantage with 130 to earn but he has more wins.

Or just outscore Leclerc and Perez by 21 points in the next 2 races.

Not realistic, but possible.

Now come on, qualifying sessions are still a blast

But yeah, it started so well between Leclerc and Verstappen

And now for some bonus stats

-30th victory for Max Verstappen, just one left to equalize Nigel Mansell in 7th for most victories.
-Verstappen also became the youngest driver to reach 30 victories, aged 24 (Vettel was 26, Hamilton and Schumacher 29, Prost 33, Senna 31, Alonso 30 and Mansell 39).
-5th hat trick (pole, win and fastest lap) for Verstappen, equalizing Fernando Alonso, Mika Hakkinen, Damon Hill and Nigel Mansell.

not so many remarkable stats this race either
