The Americans would've been more pragmatic about this: jet-powered dryers to dry out Kemmel/Raidillon quickly, and let them go. Would take the same amout of time, without the shitshow parade we have now.

WHY THE FUCK do you use the SC, race cars and actual race distance to dry out a goddamn track?? We all know what the problem is in the eye of race control (wet kemmel = death), so fix it directly

So just a thought: as these seem to be formation laps, they don't count to the race, right? In case they would actually start right after those formation laps, wouldn't it make sense to not actually do the formation laps but instead wait in the pits for the safety car and the field to come in and be thr first to change and go back out?

They weren't, the official timing system started couting laps. They can do this (was done at Spa 1997 for the same reasons)
