I agree, and shall round off this evening of posting by quoting the thoughts of a friend of mine:

"Looks like this might suffer from the same old car movie fail (an endless amount of gears to shift into when needed), but otherwise should be interesting. And it is very nice to see this era of F1 getting some mainstream coverage!"

My favourite is Days of thunder for that. Running side by side? Why not floor the throttle hard and shift up a gear to beat your rival to the line, begging the question: "why didn't you do that before? " :p

I don't get it, people see one minute worth of trailer and they are determined that the movie will suck? :o

Have you actually seen other trailers before? It's not like they have the best parts of the movie in it, but something to draw your attention. Some of the bits in trailer might not even go to the final cut of the film.

For a long time there's actually coming a racing movie that tries to be accurate (Not saying that Talladega Nights weren't accurate enough) and people are bitching about it after the first trailer? I for one am excited about this film and will definitely go see it. And if I must, I will compare it to Driven after I've seen it.

I thought it looked good, if I wasn't an F1 fan I would want to see this film based on that trailer. As an F1 fan, I still want to watch it.
It's just a first trailer, we are all going to see it anyway so lets wait and see what the whole film is like.

Guys, a quick question. Why did the number of overtaking double from 2009 to 2010?
DRS only introduced in 2011, and KERS was in no use for 2010. So I dont get that. The datas are from cliptheapex.com, the overtaking database. From 2010 to 2011 its okay, it is because of the DRS, but how about 2009 to 2010? From 244 to 547. Thanks ;)

We have the same sort of arguments everytime there's a change of anything in F1. The move from V10's to V8's in 2006 was going to harm spectator interest because of how crap the V8's were going to sound, The 2009 aero regulations were going to make cars so ugly that people stopped watching & the stepped noses of 2012 were supposed to do the same. Yet each time after some initial complaints a few races into the season everyone stops complaining & just focuses on the on-track racing which is afterall what we all watch to see.

Still glad though that this idea never made it to the real cars.

Bit late to the party, but I just saw this.

Rubbish it all you want, but this theory (split/dual wings) is actually a brilliant concept.

Dual control left and right on the sections of wings could bring theories like mid-corner DRS into play, have offset angles on wings, would act like an insane limited slip differential, it's already in practice (Pagani Hyuara), it's no space age idea. Now that winglets are banned, all the turbulent air currently, from the car infront now comes from the bluff surfaces, which is mainly the tyres. If you eliminate that by controlling the flow (with wings), there would be massive drops in turbulent flow mid corner. Instead of battles happening on straights, they would happen in corners.

Now I'm struggling to remember my theory, but if I can recall, turbulent air reacts very well to wings. I'd need to check a text book (for the nerds out there, correlate reynolds number vs. wing angles, and see which has a better lift or drag coefficient) to remind me of theory, but you would also get significantly greater downforce figures too. Meaning, insane corner speeds. See upwards of jet fighter g-forces mid corner if they used the turbulent flow off the wheels for downforce, rather than laminar flow. You wouldn't get any less drag either, get arguably similar drag values than what we have now (2009 > era wings). So no loss in top speed, but huge gains in corner speed.

Sorry to go all nerd, but I thought people might be interested by this.

Perhaps because there were more cars on track and a far larger disparity in pace between first and last places. In 2010 BMW and Toyota had both left and they were both consistent top 10 contenders. They were replaced by Hispania, Virgin and Lotus.

2010 also had 2 more events than in 2009 and a couple more rain affected races.

Yep, V6 engines sound terrible

Seriously, am I the only person here who absolutely loved the sound of the 1980's turbo cars? So much more throaty than the high pitched whinging we've had since then.

I have to admit that I don't know a lot about the mechanics of next year's engines, and I have no idea how the sound will compare to turbos from the past, but could we at least wait and see? It's not as if the current engines are the best sounding thing we've had in the history of F1.

Yeah that's not the same type of V6. That's like saying NASCARs should sound like F1 cars because they're both V8s. :o

As I say, I'm not sure how the modern V6s will sound. If they're anywhere close to the old ones, I'll be happy. If they're not going to be, can someone explain to me why? :p

The way I look at the engines changes is... anything is better than the current version of screamers. I've not been a fan of any of the screamers since BMW first introduced the high revving engine 10 years+ back.

Just for comparison.

I don't think the difference between 1986 F1 V6 Turbo and 2013 Indycar V6 Turbo is that big (or at least not NASCAR vs. F1 V8 big), so I can imagine new F1 engines to sound something similar to those two turbo engines.

I've only really experienced the V8 era, but on TV the V10s sounded great. Trackside the V8s are still monumentally loud, particularly the Caterham.

I'm willing to wait rather than be critical before we've heard them. Bernie's decided he doesn't like them and obviously that sort of news spreads. The journalists all wrote positive articles about the new 'Power Units' and I'm inclined to trust them.

The V8s trackside do sound amazing, but the V10s were something amazing. And the Ferrari V12 from 94 and 95 was glorious.

There is nothing wrong with the V8s at all, and there will be nothing wrong with the V6s. But it just won't be as nice as before. And it isn't really about loudness, more the scream and pitch of the engines.

Last one is perfect. There's nothing wrong with the V8 at all. It just...isn't as nice.

Ok, heres my take on Rush.....seriously who would have ever thought that there would be a fucking major Hollywood movie made about a 1970s F1 rivalry? Anyone..? Not me. So stop complaining.

If you don't like the sound of the engines, go to a concert, not a race.
