I watched some more onboards, and the startcrash really is 50/50. Verstappen dived in an opening, hoping that it would stay open. Raikkonen steered in to the apex like it was lap 25 and he had nobody behind or in front of him. Which you can't do at the start because you know there is a chance that there are other cars next to you.

Verstappen then drove to Eau Rouge at reduced speed, hoping that he could get it back to the pits for repairs. He steered to the right, car didn't go to the right, Kimi passed him on the left and expected Verstappen to make the turn. He didn't, they touched again, Verstappen's suspension collapsed.

I'm still staggered with Verstappen.

Remember when Vettel got given a huge fine for driving the Red Bull around on three wheels under safety car at Albert Park? That was 10 years and his team were fined big time (wasn't it like $50k?). Verstappen drives a broken car into a flat out corner, in-front of most of the field, at the site of a fatal accident only 24 hours before and doesn't get so much as a warning? Am I missing something? I can understand it not being that serious had the events of the day before occurring but surely this is worse than giving someone a shove in parc-ferme. He was so close to hitting an Alfa when we was careering towards the wall he could have launched that car into the stratosphere.

Also, how does he not get at least a 5 second penalty for causing that crash, it's clearly his fault, he was going into a hole that was always closing. Vettel did the identical thing a few years back and was given blame.

into a flat out corner: Yes, at reduced speed
in-front of most of the field Simply plain wrong

So yeah, you're wrong.

Another argument in favour of gravel. To my eyes, it seems that Max was not fully aware of the damage that had been done and possibly assumed that it was only a puncture, which he felt could be managed by driving at the speed he was going at and almost certainly exploiting the tarmac runoffs.

If the runoffs were gravel, then Max (or any driver) would know that they would have to keep it within the white lines and would therefore crawl to the pits, or perhaps would not even try.

Between Raikkonen and Verstappen, only one of them had visibility of both cars. There's a reason why both on the road and on the race track, the car behind is usually considered at fault in an accident. Max knew exactly where Kimi was, he knew Kimi was never going to see him in a million years, but he stuffed it in there anyway.
