Vettel should flip the car to test the extraction.

I heard that it is down to the F1 strategy group and the teams to decide whether to introduce Halo für 2017 or not. We can just hope that common sense will prevail for once.

The same F1 strategy group that approved the horrible qualifying format this year?
They probably put a bubble around the car.

According to Pat Symmonds they discussed the radio restrictions after Austria as the teams feel they need a rethink & Charlie Whiting has said that "The honeymoon period is over" & that the FIA are going to be even more strict on what is said & allow even less as they feel a lot of what was said during the Austrian Gp was stuff that the FIA were not happy with.

It looks like the halo is covered with that padded stuff you see on children BMX's. It also look like that. False sense of safety. Bang your teeth hard enough on that padding and the metal below it still knocks your teeth out.

Very clean session.
Until Vettel breaks his gearbox.

This would be a very good reason to stop watching F1. Damn... :slaphead:

Padded metal is always softer and less harmful than bare metal, you can't argue against that. What padding does is to increase the threshold for injury (what you refer to as "hard enough").

JUst look at the huge gaps in that thing where all manner of crap can get through and hit the driver...seriously what is the point of that thing. Just go full cover cockpit and get it over with and put F1 out of its missery.

I know most of us on this forum jump up and down and say "Ohh i'm giving up on F1" blah blah and empty threats...but fucking seriously if that goes though and the first few races are shit next year then yes, I will give up on F1....I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!

I'm still trying to figure out what structural problem it's trying to solve.

14 year old me could understand the raised cockpits but 36 year old me cant understand the halo. I only see flaws in it.

I think there looking more at protecting drivers against larger/heavier pieces of debris which are seen as been more lethal than some of the smaller bits which the Halo more than likely won't do much about.

I get the impression that the true goal was/is some sort of full canopy but that they have encountered problems with that style of design that they have yet to find solutions for. I saw something a few weeks ago for instance discussing the Red Bull Aeroscreen & how it passed all the initial test's of them firing stuff at it but that it failed additional test's & that is why its been taken out of consideration for the time been.

The GPDA have been pushing for something & I think that the FIA therefore feel like they need to be seen as doing something & that for the time been the halo is the best solution they have.

Ok, but what's the hurry? A couple of years here and there. If it takes 10 years to design the perfect solution, then wait 10 years. It's not like the risk of a tyre hitting the driver have increased. In fact, thank to the wheel tethers it's smaller than ever.
Do they realize that we're talking about absolutely marginal risks here? Risks that have always been there but have always be comfortable to live with. Just like I know that a drunk driver can collide with me every time I'm driving a car, but I don't want an alcohol ignition interlock for all cars and I don't think the 1-in-a-million risk is worthy of fear.

The drivers want something in place next year.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.
