Has anyone ever been to this event before, what's the overall experience like? Is there plenty to do at the track and how about the city itself?

If I was ever to go to an F1 race again, this one is the next closest to me.

I hadn't considered that. Good point.

Isn't a helicopter mandatory regardless of the location?

I ve been there once. The overall experience is great. You have a lot of stuff going on, including a big concert that you can enter with your ticket. I only had a ticket for Saturday and on Sunday I found a good spot to watch it for free, the Marina Square shopping mall. I could stand right next to the main straight before the braking point for turn 7, it was amazing, because the cars were passing by at full speed and the sound was so loud because its kind of a street canyon, that made an amazing experience.

Let's race in La Paz, so we can see how the altitude will affect them :p

Well they are gonna be 7,500 feet up in Mexico in a few weeks time (and the Mercedes engined cars are gonna be light years ahead)

Good to see another American in Formula One. I was always of the opinion that he was a bit average, and was only doing well in GP2 because it's his 3rd season. Having looked back at his racing record, it's a lot better than I remembered, so maybe he deserves a shot.

I was probably harsh on him because I argued with him on Facebook several years ago about Tilke circuits. He didn't share my opinion.

I don't really care where he's from. Unfortunately, because he is American, he may be in f1 for a while. He is average at best. Sure, average GP2 drivers have been better in f1 before, notably Kobayashi, but still. It seems like a desperate move to get in favour with Haas.

If there is an emergency hospital within a set distance I don't think so.

Hence why Suzuka didn't stop due to the helicopter not being able to fly, and Jules was transported by ambulance.

Wasn't Jules transported by car because the pressure of being airlifted was too dangerous?

The only hope for Rossi is that he is like Kobayashi, good on his tires and a fearless overtaker, but it doesn't matter, since he's in a Manor. I think, like Merhi, he'll be easily dispatched by Stevens.

Yeah! I also wonder how the modern F1 cars, with powerful aerodynamics, will deal with the thin air! La Paz is 11942 feet by the way, I would like to see F1 in a place like that, would be nice to see how the engines would behave and how the engineers would deal with that!

They said they lost 25% power in Mexico, which also meant 25% less downforce and less drag as a result of that. So they had to run max wing just to compensate for the loss. Not to mention the drivers themselves aren't used to that altitude.

I had the same though but didn't want to bother estimating it.

....Actually, I do bother, because fuck work, this is much more fun.

Mexico is at 2250m altitude. Air density is about 0.975kg/m3, instead of 1.225kg/m3 at sea level, based on this source: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/stand ... d_604.html

That's a 20% decrease. Drag coefficient varies linearly with density of the fluid. Therefore, drag decreases by 20% at Mexico.

It says a lot about people expectations regarding this race that we're sitting here discussing Mexico's air pressure instead of the Singapore GP.

Because if the race goes on, I'm sure we'll have drivers complaining of the smog all weekend long...

I like the race in Singapore. While fieldspread has sadly been a frequent occurrence over the past few editions, I like watching the GP.

The race is really long, which I like, and the track maintains a real street feel with cars regularly right near the walls.

Actually not sure about the criticism of the lay-out. I've seen street tracks with much worse lay outs. This one has a lot of turns, but also offers a realistic overtaking opportunity.

Why did Merhi have to do the press conference today? Must feel great for him to do that.

Pretty fucked up how Manor handled that situation IMO. Mehri just announced he would focus on F1 and stop in WSR, and a 1-2 weeks later he doesn't have a F1 seat anymore and they only informed him when he landed in Singapore...

There was a bomb scare at the Red Bull garage a couple of hours ago.

The police were particularly interested in the boxes with 'Renault' on the side.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.
