maybe if they had studio presentation there was no reason for pay tv...

I know what you mean. In the past for some far away races Murray and James would commentate from a studio in London.

That was the original plan when the BBC took over the contract, Jake + Resident Expert were supposed to present the race from the London Studio and commentary/pit team were voices at the track, there was never any plan to have a production crew goto the track aside from Silverstone.

Then all hell broke loose when this was revealed, and they revised the plans to send out a full compliment crew to cover the events on-site rather than production being based in London.

I dunno, maybe they over spent? If you know the BBC, then you know to cover a live event usually means 75 people at least on-site co-coordinating with another 50 in the UK.

Maybe the very nature of the way the BBC works, was it's downfall.

Both Spanish races should have been the 2 north American races, when are those highlights going to be shown? at midnight or on Monday?

2 hour highlights for the far eastern races on Sunday afternoon, will that be the full race then? If so, I might actually sleep in on Sunday and just watch that instead of live coverage on RTL7 or VT4 with annoying commercial breaks.

Does Canada clash with Euro 2012, an event the BBC covers, potentially an England game if the draw throws that up, and therefore handing ITV the bulk of the viewers on a Sunday night.

You are correct, I've just run through the process for a new customer to get this "F1 deal" and it works out at £40.50 for the first month, and £50.50 the following 11, just to be able to watch F1...

That's £596 for the year! Holy crap.

And only 10 races.

So to sum up, as we thought back in July, we've been well and truly shat upon.

So seeing as I probably can't afford £400 a year for Sky, how can I hook up RTL on my TV? :)

Wasn't it 2 picks each, so.

BBC - Monaco, UK
SKY - Australia, Canada
BBC - Spa, Interlagos
SKY - Italy, Japan
BBC - Singapore, Shanghai
SKY - Malaysia, Germany
BBC - Korea, Abu Dhabi
SKY - India, Hungary
BBC - Spain, Europe
SKY - US, Bahrain

Those are some catastrophically awful choices. I thought BBC wanted the 'classic' races? So, no Monza or Suzuka, but yeah we've got Valencia and Catalunya, just what we wanted! Where's the facepalm...

Christ, on the BBC you'll have no live F1 for two months in the middle of the summer.

Either I'm in the paddock next year (yay), convince my Dad to buy Sky (unlikely), try and set up RTL (improbable) or cry (highly likely).

I can understand how its frustrating for everyone, but for someone like me who's trying to break into F1 journalism, its even more frustrating because to write about races etc, you need to see the races live and understand the story of the races!

I still think Sky haven't thought this through - they won't get enough converts to make this viable. IF they offer a full motorsports channel as a package, available to Freeview on a pay TV (like a tenner a month) then they will get converts. At the moment, everyone loses out. The average person won't watch half a championship and you're going to get the inevitable knock on effect on grassroots motorsport etc etc

Oh and the BBC will probably have an awful commentary line up, because Brundle is almost certainly off to Sky, seeing as he's doing Le Mans.

I think basically someone goes on TV believing they can sing. They can't and half the judges will treat them carefully, the others will be cruel. Thick people will watch and for a few months praise them and treat them like celebrities. The judges will squabble and fight, because it definitely isn't scripted in order to attract more attention. Someone will "sing", get a Number 1 song and then disappear into oblivion unless they are actually talented, which is unlikely.

You know that sounds rather like the X Factor...

See, I love the Beeb when it comes to documentaries, it's the other 80% of shit they broadcast that I object paying my licence fee for...

Ours consists of 4 judges, all of them patronizing the singers, agree on everything and then the winner doesn't get a number 1 song and then dissapears into oblivion, even if they are talented.

I got the large Virgin Media tv package so will it means I get the Sky F1 channel for free?

The unique question for me is that will Sky provides live subtitles? Obviously it is a major factor of watching F1 so I can follow the pit strategies developing for example or someone reporting from the pits?

Awful? Unless they bring Legard back, I don't see it happening. Even then awful would be a stretch.

Brundle has been quite awkward at times this year and if he were to leave, and the BBC were to replace him with a proper PBP person, I think it may well be an improvement. At this point I again champion the cause of Charlie Cox.
